Now I know this is ESB, where no one is high on Valuev (pun slightly intended), especially after his terrible performance against Holyfield. Most feel he gets shady decisions (I've felt he's gotten only two in his favor, against Donald and the first Ruiz fight) and many comment that he is slow, lumbering, and just not very good. However, a few things should be considered. There was a time, and not to long ago, where Valuev actually looked good. The second Ruiz fight he did pretty well, and i thought he looked good against Liakjovich. During his title reign he had a few very good winis as well.

But the most important thing people should remember is that Valuev did NOT want to fight Holyfield. Valuev had several press statements addressing this, stating that he did not want the fight but management was pushing for it. During the fight, I thought he looked almost bored and visibly disinterested in fighting or hurting Evander, and the fight was therefore close.

I'm not saying Valuev will beat Haye, who will likely be the favorite. But I do think it is dangerous to base a fighter simply on their last fight. Valuev may present more of a problem if he can work on his speed and get back to commiting to his jab, which was very good for a time.

I hate Haye. That being said I hope he KOs Valuev. Valuev gets questionable decisions and for his size lacks power and everything else. He is absolutely the most boring boxer in the division and I want to see him get straight out KOed in this fight.

This might not be a cake walk because Valuev is tall and Haye might have problems reaching his head. If he connects though he is going down.

His hand speed wasn't bad for a guy of his size, relatively speaking it is slow, but when added to his usual reach advantage it must be a tricky proposition given the number of people that have had trouble with him.

Valuev's foot speed is the problem, he does not close the distance fast enough and I don't seem to remember him moving out of the way of punches like Wlad does.

Interesting i never knew this was the case. If he wasn't interested in the fight could explain his lacklustre performance. However he's a proffesional there shouldn't be any excuse

He should as a pro, but I'm sure anyone would have a hard time fighting one of the legends of boxing, who is so clearly not only past his best, but possibly primed to be seriously hurt in the ring.

This was no secret. He was aware that the fight was a lose/lose proposition from the start. Valuev bowed to Holyfield after the fight as a sign of respect. When was the last time you've seen a fighter do something like that? IMO, Haye is and should be the favorite to win this fight but he's used to stopping his opponents and relatively quick. If Valuev can take his best shots who's to say that Haye can remained composed in the face of an oncoming giant who will be there all night? On the surface it looks like a very winnable fight for Haye but the truth is that Valuev's size, if nothing else, will ensure that the fight will not be a blowout. Even his lone (official) loss to Chagaev was close. Haye needs to have a gameplan and stick to it. As limited a fighter as Valuev is, he is stubbornly consistent within those parameters. In other words, his style is repetitious but combined with his size, it's repetitious enough to get the job done for the most part. It's one thing to have a slow fighter jab and throw a right hand over and over but when that guy is 7'2" 320 lbs it's a whole other issue.

You've made some very interesting points there. I also felt the same. If Haye doesn't take him out by the 5th round I think its Valuev fight. Especiallyas Haye hasn't gone past the 5th round in his last 3 fights and he's been inactive for far to long.
If it goes to the judges... well its in Germany if Holyfield couldnt get it Haye defo won't. I think this will be playin on his mind and Haye will go all guns blazing in the early rounds.

Does anyone know if Valuev has been hit by anything close to Haye's power?

David Haye is 6'3" and 78"reach and Valuev is 7' and 85" reach and slower then all hell, Haye will get inside and KO Valuev.
Haye will make a point in this fight.

I've seen enough Valuev fights to know he sucks. The proof is in the pudding.

Valuev has a good jab but he doesn't have the authority or skill level a Wladimir Klitschko has. Haye should be able to land his right hand on Valuev all night, Chagaev had a lot of success with the overhand right against Valuev.

Valuev also has good stamina for his size and a decent chin though he has been hurt before but only that one time that I can think of.

If Haye doesnt KO him in the early rounds, I could see Valuev winning the decision or a late round KO of Haye.

Just feels to me Valuev is aging at a rapid clip. He's in his mid 30s but he fought Holyfield like he was 55.

I hope we see the Valuev version that fought Barrett or Liakhovich, not the Holyfield version.

I've made the same comments about his aging process as well. I'm not expecting much out of him during the Haye fight.

I Think the facts that are being over looked is Valuev has proven himself on the world class level vs the likes of Ruiz, and Chagaev. These were close fights. Other facts are Valuev takes a good punch, and has some heart.

Haye is mostly hype. If he fights smart, I suppose Haye can win on points, but he will disappoint the fans by not delivering the stoppage.

Haye's stamina and chin are shaky. Valuev could take him out at any time, or take him out late when Haye gasses.

I think Valuev will win here.
