Well, we have an interview where Pavlik himself was gloating how they are all ruining their careers for peanuts, but Pavlickers come with how he really, really would have died for going into that tournament but evil Sourlord didn't let him. Classic Pavlicker logic. Not as creative as the lie how Miranda "easily KOed a better version of Eastman than Abraham fought", but frankly, that one is hard to top.
You're absolutely right Pavlik can box. However Pavlik seems to have become more one dimensional in the last few years. It kind of reminds me of what Chris Byrd once said about Kostya Tzszu "Kostya was one of the slickest amateur boxers in the ams but when he turned pro he fell in love with power and didn't need to box because he was knocking people out." I think the same mentality might apply to Pavlik. He looked more like a boxer when he first started appearing on FNF and more like a brawler after he started knocking people out with regularity. So I think the whole one dimensional criticism has some truth to it.
What? Froch was knocked down. Hurt on several occasions. But never closed to being stopped. Pavlik on the other hand was holding on for dear life once he had risen from the canvas.
At times Pavlik does fall into head hunting. The first two rounds of the Zertuche fight provides a pretty glaring example. In the first round Zertuche couldn't land spit. In the 2nd round Kelly went to head hunting and brawling and Zertuche couldn't miss him. Prior to that fight Jack Leow and Kelly had both stated, "We know what the fans like to see." KP went out and put on one hell of a show. In the Mranda fight "boxing" never entered the equation. The plan was to run Miranda's ass over, no matter what, and it worked. Fast forward to the 2nd Taylor fight. Ever since that fight I've heard nothing but crap about how "Pavlik didn't look good above 160." Non sense! KP countered Jermains jab, countered his lead right, landed nice shots off of feints, et. Very few people even noticed. They did not notice because their preconcieved ideas and their bias blinds them to reality. Before the Rubio fight I personally put up a poll and ask "What should KP do with Rubio." A clear majority said he should dominate Rubio for several rounds, and then stop him. Kelly did exactly what ESB posters said he should, but now he just gets **** for it because the fight lasted 9 rounds, and KP didn't look like Sweetpea. When Pavlik goes out and blasts people into oblivion, he's a one dimensional plodder. When he clealry outboxes Jermain Taylor, one of the best in the game, he "doesn't look good above 160."
zTbh hones kp holds his hands up in a high guard and Froch isn't fast enough to get his right hand over that jab. so i can see froch eating alot of jabs, froch would have to loop his right hand to catch Kp and go for the Cold KO. but he runs the chance of walking in to that straight right hand(which isn't fun to take.) i say froch gets cut up by the jab or his eye starts to swell. the only thing kp has to watch for is being caught while still dry for some reason he never has a sweat on him(what is wrong with lowe) when he comes out which i feel is why he's been caught early so many times (ala tito) he doesn't have a bad chin . so if froch can catch him cold he has the power to finish him off. but i have a feeling froch will find it hard to catch KP wwith that jab in his face. he lands some meaning full punches in the fight but is to wore down come around the 8th and is put down by that big right hand coing down the midlle. Note: Kp will look faster in this fight then he really is the reason why is beacause his punches will be strighter and will be getting to froch alot quicker. would be a hella of a fight
i reckon pavlik is mentally broken since that hopkins affair froch on the other hand, while he admits to getting butterflies before fights and in the first couple round, is fearless in the ring and supremely confident/cocky in and out of the ring
And you base this assesment on what? ***** slapping his mando into submission, or taking time off because his wife had a baby?
jack loew said they were staying at 160...that is his comfort zone...froch would beat him with relative ease although i am a KP fan...too big
Boo,we may not agree on certain points, but i like reading your posts, and you sound like a knowledgeable and well informed boxing fan,UNTIL the word Pavlik is mentioned.I respect your views and i myself was a Pavlik fan until he came out with the excuse's about why he lost to BHop and why he's dissappeared for months. Pavliks strength is his ability to squeeze his large frame under the 160 limit, that is why he is able to take a good shot and have good pop himself. The fact is though 8lbs makes a huge difference, middleweights dont hit like SMW's thats a fact.Pavlik has better than average power at 160,at 168 it'll be average at best, and there will also be a big question mark about his ability to take a shot from a big punching SMW. Why has Pavlik campaigned at 160 if he is such a force at 168 ? Contrary to popular belief i'm no Frochite,i reply to Froch threads because i feel he gets a raw deal from a lot of boxing fans simply because until Taylor he had an average resume.Froch is not the silkiest boxer, and i'll admit he leads with his chin at times, but the guy can fight and even in the face of adversity he NEVER lose's faith in himself to beat the man in front of him.People say his power is overrated ? this is another thing that puzzles me,whilst his handspeed doesn't look that great he puts a lot of weight into the punches and only a fool would believe he has no power. If this hypothetical match up happened,i dont think Froch would allow Pavlik to take the centre of the ring and set the pace,i think Froch would jump on him from the first bell.I think Pavlik will feel the extra 8lb's hitting him,and only see one outcome.
If Pavlik isn't totally shot, I simply cannot see him losing to someone as crude as Froch boxed against Taylor. A lead hand telegraphed from 3 miles away ? Pavlik could either be wide away until it lands, or counter it, whatever he wants. He also is not known in the negative for stamina issues. "Size" is way overrated, especially when it comes to Froch. He may be better than he looks at times, but simply does not have the skills to beat a good textbook boxer without fundamental flaws. The sole thing that gives Froch a chance of doing inexplainably good is that Pavlik may very well be mentally shot.
