Just wanted to post this here since ive been training in Kyokushin from my teens, and this is a training forum. Kyokushin does not allow for face punching, which is its biggest weakness, however, im posting this to show that toughness it mostly a mental thing, regardless of the technique here. So before your fights, train mentally to ignore pain! My martial arts teacher was fighting when he was young to get his black belt in Kyokushin, as part of the test you have to fight between 15 or 20 2-minute rounds, and each time they bring a fresh guy to beat on you. The purpose is to survive. The gloves that these guys are wearing are very thin, so the punches to the body are felt very much, and during the test there are no weight classes. Scroll over to about 2:00 mintes into the video, my teacher is the guy wearing head protection.
I used to do karate for many years when I was younger. Seeing this reminds me why I like boxing so much better. (also not being kicked is a great feeling)
Boxing has been my favorite sport since I can remember. Being kicked in the legs is also a *****, especially by someone much bigger than you. The body punching aspect of Kyokushin here helps alot to train your body to take body shots, ive seen plenty of body shot knock outs in boxing, but you can train your body to take this kind of punishment, alot of it has to do with proper breathing
Not bad, but I never liked the no punching to the head thing, if your training for self defense, you need that realism.
Theres been some good kyokushin kickboxers though.. andy hug comes to mind. I heard the epitome of that kind of testing is 1v100 in sucession. Isn't mas oyama the only guy ever to do this in an official capacity?
