With manny fighting cotto next and then hopefully fighting mayweather, it does beg the question; where do we place this special fighter on that mythical greatest amongst greats list?

At the moment i'd say hes between 30-40 ATG. A ko win over cotto means hell climb to top 20. A win over mayweather, well who knows?

Finally who would manny have to beat to be considered P4P ATG #1? Beat a middleweight for example or accomplish some other ridiculous feat? I think the competition is availible for him to accomplish this status.

Mathematically, he can't ever rise that high, or come close.

Realistically? He could join the top 3 argument if he convincingly beats Cotto, Marquez, Mayweather, Mosley, Pavlik and the winner of the Super Six tournament.

I think it would be close to impossible to achieve no. 1 right now.

If he beats Floyd, Cotto, Mosley, then add Berto or Margarito when he comes back, surely a top 20.

Perhaps if Pac also moves to 154 then dominates, then he can surely reach no. 1.

If he could clean out 147, 154 and pick up a strap at MW he could concievably be, but thats a stretch. There are three guys IMO who have a claim to the No. 1 fighter ever, and they are SRR, Ali, and Amstrong and their body of work is very lengthy. Pac is just not gonna finish his career with those kind of accolades IMO.

Putting aside that it would probably be impossible for him to do so, you don't think that those six wins would put him up on a level with Robinson and Armstrong? That would give him three more lineal titles than he already has, plus he will have avenged his close fights to Marquez, plus wins over (at least) 4 more top 10 P4P fighters.

Im not disagreeing that he cannot do it, but why are people saying it is mathmatically impossible, i only say this because since the P4P#1 List is opinion based (If im wrong happy to know) then surely its not mathmatical?

But saying that im still really interested to know why people are sayin no

A former flyweight beating the lineal 168 lber. Thats a bit much. Manny would be outweighed by about 40 lbs. On a serious note where would he be place if he koed cotto, mayweather, mosley and one top middleweight such as AA or pavlik.

Exactly the point is he can do it with the fighters availible to him at present. At the top end you need a vast resume to crack the top 5 who are pretty much interchangeable.

well people are going to say cotto was shot (people are saying that already), mayweather had a 2 yr layoff, mosley was too old

I'm not quite understanding how and why Pacman can't conceivably jump into the top 3. What do these greats have over Pacman? Longevity? Sure. But what about quality of opposition and quality of wins? How many can trump Pacman in that department if he does go on to beat Cotto, PBF and say, Mosley?

If he does that, he might conceivably beat around 8-9 HOFers. How many can say THAT?

That would put him clearly ahead of Duran, behind Robinson and Armstrong, and arguable with Greb and Langford.

I still don't see Pac as a natural flyweight though. He wasn't really 'natural' until he was at featherweight - he just happened to be a great young fighter, who was able to do great things before he even physically matured. What he was able to do south of there is mostly just a big bonus.
