    All population data is from Wiki and is based on the most recent numbers. Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland, 17 is the number I got when I combined North and South and also 2 world champs who were born in Ireland but are commonly thought of as American.

    Excellent , excellent post and idea-should post it also in the Classic section.
    Would love to know the criteria used to compile the list of champions, not to criticise but for information.
    Also a caviate for those using this info, we are talking current population.

    No, Irish. Just annoys me that title holders are routinely classified as champions. :-(

    Republic of Ireland has approx 4.25 million and the North 1.75 so 6 is ok.
