Tyson vs Tua in 1996 who would win if they fought in that year?

I'll go with Tyson. Although it really comes down to who can connect with a big shot first. There would be power punches being lobbed left and right. Would be over quick if they both really went at it.. that is for sure.

 

I'm not saying that Tyson wouldn't be the faster fighter in this fight. I'm just saying Tua is fast as well back in his day. But sometimes better speed might not win you the fight just ask Dougles and Holyfield when Tyson was faster then both of them and both of them ko Tyson. Tua wouldn't hold or use his jab or use his head, he still can be dangerous. But like i said this fight is like a toss up.

 

thats the thing. douglas and holyfield OUTBOXED tyson. they fusturated the hell out of tyson and beat him up. tua is shorter then even tyson and he cant outbox tyson. he would have to get into a punchout with tyson. thats not the way to beat tyson. nobody ever beat tyson that way. its not good to have to trade punches with somebody who is quicker then you and who has more firepower.

 

Tyson in 96 was still too good of a boxer for Tua

 

The fact is that Tyson avoided Tua like a plague by late 90s to early 2000s.

Tua has been calling out Tyson and Tyson came back saying how he would like to train "the kid" who can punch and take a punch.

Tua turned out to be a big disappointment for me and I attributed it largely to Lewis' laying the blue print in beating Tua and Tua eing mentally scarred with that humiliating defeat. BUt the Tua pre-Lewis was a monster. He koed guys like Ruiz, Rahman, Maskaev, who later become HW champs. He also stood toe to toe with Ibeabuchi in one of the greatest toe to toe HW fight I've seen. I thought Tua won that fight by a clear 2 rounds.

Prime Tua 1997 vs 1986 Tyson, if Tyson boxes he might be able to eek a decision. If Tyson tried to slug, night night for li'l Mikey. Tua has better stamina and better chin. Both possess power to hurt the other though I think Tua can take Tyson's power better than the other way around.

Hmmm...I think the blueprint for beating Tua had already been laid well before the Lewis match. Let's not forget Rahman was outboxing him fairly handily until being clocked after the bell.
Also he'd only scraped a majority decision over Jeff Wooden acouple of fights prior to Rahman, emphasising that he could be outmanuvered.
As I recall Maskaev was not doing too badly at outboxing him for a while also.

SInce we're focusing on 1996 though, I remember vividley Tua being hugely uninspiring in stopping Dan Murphey in 5 rounds and thinking then that he was pretty poor at putting his punches together.
Since even the reduced Tyson of '96 COULD put together lovely combo's against a static target and Tua always was that, I'd fairly confidently pick Tyson to outpunch and overwhelm Tua using far greater handspeed and punch versitility for a stoppage between 4 and 7.

 

Yes Tyson is a bit quicker but it's not like Tua isn't fast as well cause he is. You say nobody ever beat Tyson that way? Thats true but the fighters Tyson beat don't have the same style like Tua. If theres anyfighter that can trade with Tyson it is Tua. People forget Tua has never ever been knockout. Tua never been tko and Tua never ever ever ever been knockdown. Rahman who ko Lewis in the first fight fought Tua twice and never came close of stopping Tua. Hell Rahman couldn't even knockdown Tua ( he did knockdown Tua actually but it was after the 12th round ended in which it doesn't count and Tua was off balance anyway but it still doesn't count) Tua has been with fighters with knockout powers and those fighters never stunned Tua badly. I swear Tua chin is made of superman steel.

 

But Tyson wouldn't outbox Tua. Thats not Tyson style mostly in the 95, 96. Tyson comes straight at you with gun blazing without any good headmovement. Tyson has the advantage in speed but again sometimes speed won't help. If Tua can take Tyson best shots like Holyfield did, Tyson might be confuse as to what to do.

 

He has a point in stamina issue. Tua has a very good stamina while Tyson gets tired easily if it goes past the 4th round.

 

I don't suggest he'll jab and move, but Tyson even in '96 has massive advantages in foot, upper body movement and handspeed. Everyone always says he had no head movement in '96 but it's not true. People forget he did show some ehad movement in both fights with Holyfield. His head movement was nowhere what it was but it would be good enough to allow him to outland against Tua. Remember his head movement was pretty poor in '91 but against a primarily one handed fighter in Ruddock he was able to easily outland him and block or evade a lot of shots in return. He'd do the same to Tua who's right hand was never up to much.

 

Here's the thing.
Tua has a better chin than Tyson. Tua also carries his power late into a fight. Tyson tires out after about 5 rounds.

Tyson is all around better skilled than Tua, but...BUT, after Tyson shoots his load and Tua is still standing, Tua has the power to stop Iron Mike. Can Mike stand up to the Tua assualt?

If Mike can last till round 12 we have Mike winning by close decision.
More likely is that Mike is tired and frustrated that this man is still standing, and Tua stops him.

If the year is 1996, I'm going with David Tua.

 

He said an 86 tyson. not in 86 he doesn't.

 

That **** is said so much that EVERYONE believes it. Only in the 2000's did we start seeing Tyson get tired after 4 rounds. He went 11 in the Holyfield fight and was still active until the end.
