That's true. Just Koed Shavers. But I was hearing around 74-75 he was having personal problems, and drinking quite a bit. For whatever it's worth, his career went to the wayside afterwards if that says anything...

Yeah, I saw the fight. It was all class by Joe. He could've finished him as he slouched on the ropes. It was actually the 10th round, though. Bugner survived afterwards fine though. It was a pretty competetive fight in scoring.

Well that should make me re-evulate. I just think it goes the distance. I guess the 15th rounds is what gives Joe a good chance at KOing him. But the slippery outside boxer? If not Bugner, then I think Young can get by.

 

Sure, but the point is Young is slippery and fairly durable. Shavers knocked him out in his 12th fight. By 75 onwards he was a better fighter.

Forget post 35 actually, I just remembered that Ali-Frazier III took place in october 1st or some **** which means that Frazier-Young post Manila likely couldnt happen in 1975.... now I feel sorry for Young.....

I'm not saying that he was harder to take out than Young, just that he wasn't that easy to take out.

This is something one often hears about popular fighters suffering embarassing losses. I don't know much about Quarry's personal life, but it doesn't make sense to me that he seems more consistent than ever, gets what could be the ticket to a title shot and a fight he should have some confidence about (Frazier had just lost to Foreman and Ali, and their first fight was competitive until Quarry suffered the cut) and then just chucks it in. If anything he should be very, very up for that fight. But then life isn't always logical of course.

Not that much. He only lost to Norton after that before retiring (until the comeback in 1992). Also, Frazier gave him a quite a beating, and he might just have seen his last chance at a title shot disappear after such a one-sided loss. Certainly after Ali, who'd beat him easily twice (the last time with absolutely humiliating ease), regained the title shortly afterwards.

Who knows. But you can't really say a KO is a bad bet. Certainly not if it's the Frazier of Manilla in there with Young.

 

Class act by Frazier. He might have hurt Bugner very badly had he followed up. Bugner showed some guts coming back up as well.

 

Immy Young would win easily. Ellis was never the caliber Immy was. Jimmy beat Ali big in my opinion. He beat the conqueror of Frazier. He beat Lyle and Dunn and would most likely do the same to little left handed Joe too

Ok, I concede that. But really, the argument started with Frazier eating up Young like he did Ellis. I just don't see him taking Young out that quickly at that point in his career. I find Young to be superior, especially compared to the Elllis of that time and a better stylistic bout for Young than Ellis.
