Which Active Pro Fighters Will Become the Best Trainer

Yeah, but he sounds like a moron doing it. At least B-Hop saids things that make sense. Well, to some extent.

 

Question is impossible to answer. Why would a great fighter = a great trainer? Different skillset completely. Look at Arcel, Futch, D'amato, Roach...

 

Sugar Shane, Winkey Wright, Cory Spinks, JMM, Guzman, Nate Campbell, B-Hop, and RJJ.

 

I realize that. But everyone is listing great fighters. Because we think we know the personalities of these fighters because they are the ones we hear get interviewed all the time (or we just think great fighter = great trainer...which is false)
How many of us know the skills required to be a greater trainer? Who can even define it? Who of us actually knows a boxer with those traits? There are a lot less great trainers then there are great fighters. Or am I just thinking too much?

 

I can't rally explain why but I have a feeling that Lamon Brewster would make a good trainer. I think a lot of what makes a good trainer is temperament and Lamon seems like a guy who could really be patient with a fighter. His style is that of a plodder who looks to wear down his opponents but I can see him recognizing the fundamental flaws in that style and acknowledging that what may work for him may not necessarily work for others. With that being the case, he'd help his fighters employ fightplans that would capitalize on their strengths and put them in position to compete if not win.

Bernard Hopkins would probably make a good trainer but at the same time, I can see his ego getting in the way of a successful fighter/trainer relationship in the sense that he'd get frustrated with a guy who, for whatever reason, can't do what he is asking. Afterall, Hopkins is so good that it might be difficult for him to accept the fact that most fighters are not only incapable of doing the things he himself does but also incapable of disciplining themselves the way he does.

I pick James Toney.
Can we call him a free trainer as that seems to be what he has been doing lately.

Also Alan Green.
He is well versed in history etc. You just have to make sure he shows up...
