It happens in boxing, it wasn't a terrible knockdown, it was a good sneaky shot. Calzaghe was being overaggressive in the first round because he was expecting to win easily, I doubt he'd be as stupid against prime Roy Jones.

Calzaghe is no Eric Lucas though

^ LOL. That said, Eric Lucas was a guy Calzaghe should have targeted when he held the WBC 168 title.

Calzaghe is vunerable to right hands.

Jones had an awesome fast right hand, with great timing and decent power. Perfect against Calzaghe.

    Calzaghe would win.

Jones would have annihilated him so badly. How could Joe possibly stand up to this......

    [YT]UDWnMXzgeZo[/YT]

So Calzaghe floored by Hopkins, Jones jnr, Salem and Mitchell and nailed repeatedly by Eubank, Bika, Woodhall, Reid and Kessler gives Jones a struggle - lol .... based on what? The Lacy win.....:huh

Jones ko 1 - 4 literally as soon as he feels like it.

Calzaghe's constant flurrying is perfect for stopping a speedy fighter like Jones getting to the punch first. As we he know his offense if his defence, Jones has no way past it.

Wouldn't be surprised if the left hook landed at some point from Calzaghe. Jones was slightly open to that against southpaws, he'd get frustrated against Calzaghe and likely leave himself open to it at some point.

That video from the OP post shows RJJ at his prime, and he is unbelievable in that in terms of his technique and performance.

JC would not be able to live with a prime RJJ.

I cannot predict the round, because who knows when JC's prime was, as he spent years fighting bums during his prime, and therefore was never really tested...

I absolutely agree :good I grew up watching the fights as they happened and I have them all on Video/DVD, but seeing that compilation even I forgot how good he was. He really was something special, particularly 1994-2003.

Thanks for posting that Jeff, I'm going to use that video against all my blind worshipping fellow Taffies down here in South Wales who hadn't even heard of Roy Jones Jr until last year, who think Calzaghe beat a great fighter.
In name only people, in name only....

Calzaghe's flurrying would only come into play if he got near Jones. Jones had far superior footwork and would be nowhere near Calzaghe until he was ready to do something, and when Roy was ready to do something Calzaghe wouldn't have seen it until it had stunned him into next week.

And even if Joe's left hook did land.... do you think a prime Roy who took a heavyweight's punches in John Ruiz wouldn't be able to take a Joe Calzaghe slap?

i believe joe would lose because of jones's superior athlecism not because of boxing skill, but please stfu about jones KOing joe in 4 rounds, hes smart and good enough to at least prevent jones from KOing him

If Hopkins had stepped on the gas and stepped it up a little he could have KO'd Joe in a round. What's to say a prime Jones couldn't?

i really doubt it, this is why joe will alway beat bhop, the more punches bhop throws, the greater severety of the beating he recieves from joe.

i doubt JC would underestimate a prime jones the way he did to the 'shot to absolute ****' jones

It would be a very embarrassing defeat for Joe. Jones was several leagues above him.

Didn't Joe say that he felt he could have gone a few rounds with Roy, maybe even the distance but he didn't fancy the fight because he didn't want a loss on his record?

Disagree. The only beating Hopkins gets from Joe are on his arms and elbows. The more punches B-Hop throws, the more he hits Joe and probably ends up knocking him on his arse again..

I don't think any of Roy's opponents underestimated him. Roy still whupped them.
