jones at 160 has the best chance, then hagler. jones has the speed, power, elusiveness, athletisicm to do it.
Speed, movement, durability are key attributes... throw in a punch that earns respect & you have the remedy. Robinson would put an ass whuppin on Monzon IMO, if he didnt KO him, he`d win a clear UD - provided both are at their MWT peak of course.
You're so funny. . . . . I don't recall Monzon facing too many movers in his career. Napoles tried to do it, but was too small. I think those guys would be the best chance to give Monzon a loss.
Randy Turpin, Gene Fullmer, Ralph Tiger Jones, Carmine Basilio, and Paul Pender could beat SRR and Monzon couldn't? Listen, I think Robinson was, as the concensus usually goes, the greatest fighter p4p...but that prime of his..his best, was at welterweight. Monzon would have beaten Robinson, who had trouble with tall guys, and Monzopn's style would have been pure poison for Ray..Monzon was a better, and far more consistant middleweight champion than Ray.
Monzon would have had trouble as you say with the speed and athleticism of Jones, until he found that china chin with the right..and over 15 rounds, that would have happened...Jones wouldn't be fighting any of those hapless postmen, and part time policemen/boxers in Monzon.
Leonard 50/50 with Monzon? You gotta be kidding. All he did there was barely outpoint an aging Hagler, who would at that point would've been thrashed by Monzon. Leonard was great, but simply too small to beat Monzon. The same goes for Robinson, although he was more proven at MW.... still, i think Monzon would be one bridge too far..
Mickey Walker as a "wild card". When he truly moved into MW and was the Champ he was beating lot of other MW's real bad.......and went on up to draw with Jack Sharkey. Walker was tough as nails and might have a style to beat Monzon in a one fight scenerio.
Mythical fights usually = best versions at the weight. Of course Monzon could beat the version of Robinson that lost to these guys but he sure as **** wouldnt beat the Robinson that TKOd Lamotta, at least not in my book.
Prime for prime, probably none. On the other hand, I would say neither Hagler nor Jones faced anyone who would beat a prime Monzon. Boxers of that calibre are very rare; the middleweight division was lucky enough to have three top 10 ATG boxers in just three decades.
