I agree man...those wins are WONDERFUL wins on Marvin's resume. I mean, dont get me wrong, Im about as big a Hagler fan as you will find...hell I grew up a few cities over from where he did, around the same time he was in his prime (I was young, but my dad thinks Hagler sparred with Jesus, so I was raised to believe Marvin was THE MAN...which he was LOL!)...its like a right of passage around here. But as I said in the other post to Jarodz, its the age we live in. Back then they didnt have people questioning their every fight or every opponent on such a large scale. Its unfair to the current fighters...but its human nature now.

Its why there are so many who believe that regardless of better training techniques, better conditioning, better footage for study, better everything...that no current fighter stands a chance against their past counterparts (My dad is in this ilk...you have no idea LOL!). At least thats my take on it...

    Ya know?

My apologies sues2nd. I actually thought Bhop fought Joppy 3 times, dunno what I was thinking. The one fighter I wished Bhop had fought was Toney. Stylistic would of been a great fight.

    Agreed man....100%.

A few days back (maybe longer...I work to damn much...all days are one nowadays), there was a post about the most overrated and underrated fighters on this forum. I choose Joe for both. And I love the guy.

And if you go read any post on Pav vs Williams, if you choose one (I got Williams by WIDE UD BTW), the other guys fans pull out the pitchforks and torches and RISE UP AGAINST YOU!!!

    But what can ya do...:conf

:goodYea, I agree. I'm not one of those guys who alway's lean toward past era fighters as if they were gods. The fact is the current era is actually pretty underrated as their is just as many capable fighters as their have been in any era. The only argument I have against the current era is their less proven due to the politics that hold back the career defining match-ups.

    Agreed. And no worries bro...

I also would have loved to see Toney and Hop fight. Hell just the press conferences would be worth PPV money!!! LOL! Only thing is, we got two different era's in a way. Toney was already at CW when Hopkins started to really hit his stride and have a fight with James make sense for both men. It almost did happen, but Bernard didnt want to go to CW to make it happen at the time...so the talks fizzled in their infancy (tho some of the people who love Toney...will make it seem like he left James at the alter LOL!).

But yeah, that would have been a hell of a fight.

    Very true.

Imagine if this Pavlik - Williams fight were for the MW Championship...and not the WBWHATEVER MW Championship (or ships)? Or if boxing could put together cards like the UFC does (like it or not, but those PPV's they put on have their top guys facing each other month in and month out)? Or fighters didnt get stripped for fighting guys better and more deserving of who their "mandatory" is?

Politics have killed some really, REALLY great fights. Sad but true in the day and age of ABC Orgs.

If Hopkins beats Adamek, I think it would be very hard to justify having Hagler higher.

Anyone who puts Hagler over Bhop should just go to the classic forum where you can rant all day about how Marciano beats Tyson.

Hopkins accomplished waaaaay more, and Hopkins doesn't get beat by any welterweight. EVER.

Hagler's greatest fights? All against former welterweights and even a lightweight, and he LOST one of them and quit like Hamed afterwards. He couldn't carry Nard's jockstrap. Get real.

The first Anteofermo fight was no fluke. Tarver, Pavlik, Wright each would probably beat ALL of those guys, and Hop SHOULD have got the nod against JT the first time out. Hell, Echols, Vanderpool, Glen Johnson and Joppy is probably a tougher out than that lineup. Being from Philly ain't everything and if you look at their records they have a lot of less than impressive losses.

Hagler is as overrated as Pryor.

I have Hopkins and Pacquiao as the greatest boxers of this decade. Hopkins' achievements are incredible and he is an ATG easily but I rank Hagler higher, he dominated the middleweight division during a tough period and overall fought the better guys.

Come on comparing Hamed and Hagler? Thats ridiculous. Hagler wanted a rematch with Leonard unlike Hamed. The two were at completely different points of their career. Hopkins may have accomplished more, maybe but he wasnt better than Hagler, no way.

I think the huge thing about Hopkins winning the fight against Adamek is that it would make him basically the consensus greatest "old fighter," of all time. Meaning he would have held the real Middleweight, light heavyweight and Cruiserweight titles all past the age of forty! Starting with Tito at the age of 36, he's basically had a hall of fame middleweight career, plus another hall of fame middleweight career, plus success at higher weights. It would be truly amazing.

I think his resume would be as strong or stronger than Hagler's, plus I think he has that special bonus of being so completely unique in boxing history. Frankly, I think he is already a hair in front of Hagler.
