This broke-ass body has YEARS of training, sparring, and refereeing/judging left. This sport is my life, since I was 12 years old. Question: Have you scored an even round? If one sticks out in your memory, inform me.
Good to hear. Keep your head up. I had difficulty in scoring the Calzaghe/Hopkins fight. I think round 9 was one of the hardest to score, I had that a 10-10 round first time I scored it. But I scored that fight two times, and both times I had the same result.
My first choice would be to have the fight last until there was a stoppage. One fighter is unable or unwilling to continue. That's a little extreme for some. If the fight goes to the judges, given the subjective nature of the scoring, the winner should win clearly. Every round should be scored even unless all three judges award it to one fighter. (To reduce the chances of a 'spoiler' judge, we might go with five judges and require that at least four of them score a round to the same fighter. This would reduce the number of disputes of the Pac-JMM and Hopkins-Taylor kind. It would also reduce the numbr of 'gifts' and 'robberies.'
That's bull**** because you're automatically favoring the bigger man. The lil man may HAVE to fight off the backfoot in order to survive and win the fight effectively. The counter puncher would then LOSE a round because he wasn't strong enough to press or push forward a bigger fighter.
I dont score even rounds. I can usually determine the winner of a round by applying the 4 criteria. Its not very often that even rounds occur. Like that renowned Pac vs Marquez round which everybody always debates on. I could see that being scored even. But I dont like to do it. For a judge, I dont mind. Because they dont get the chance to view that round multiple times.
Also wasnt there a profiled fight in Europe not too long ago where the judges scorecards were really questionable and I dont mean as in robbery but as in scores like 119-117, 118-116, 116-114, these were judges who definetely favored even rounds.
119-117? wow 8 drawn rounds. I think where possible even rounds should be avoided, however I feel that it is better to score an even round than score it for the wrong man, so have no problem with rounds being too close to call for certain being scored as a 10-10 round.
No, that's your problem cause you're not scoring the fight the right way. According to you, the smaller man doesn't have a real chance of beating the bigger man, unless he lands the harder shots, which is impossible to do if the other guy is just stronger. A fighter can easily win a fight without landing many big shots.
