I think Floyd Mayweather, Jr. would make a good trainer. Very few people have his skills and understsnding of the game. It also runs in the Family. His Dad nd Uncles are all trainers. Bernard Hopkins would also make a good trainer he seemes to know the tricks of the trade.
PBF is too immature and self-obsessed to be a trainer. Besides, he's already said he wants to be a promoter when he retires, not a trainer.
His dad and Uncle Roger arn't the most mature people either. They seem to be doing alright as trainers.
Toney knows boxing in and out like no other, but he said himself that he wouldn't make a great trainer. Knowing something and being able to teach it are two different cups of tea. Plus I think that a ridiculously naturally gifted fighter like Toney would have a hard time training lesser talented fighters. Some of the best trainers around have been decent, but not great, fighters. And Toney is probably also too hot-tempered to be a good trainer, even if he's a nice friendly guy when outside the whole boxing game. I can see him losing patience with his fighters fast, or putting them through countless murderous sparring sessions, forcing them to fight his old-school style that they can't. That said, Toney is actually tutoring some young amateur kids in LA gyms, motivating them and giving them advice, so who knows maybe he'll fully train them some day nevertheless.
I can't help but imagine this one. Some poor fighter comes back to his corner at the end of his round, sits down on his stool, slumps forward. Golota, his trainer, jumps through the ropes. Golota notices that when the fighter sat down that his knees were spread. For no apparent reason Golota pounds the living **** out of his own fighter's nuts...
BHop easily. Now, whether he WANTS to be a trainer after his career is over, I don't know. He might also get easily frustrated with his fighters if they are not learning what he wants them to learn. But yeah, he could potentially be an ATG trainer.
i agree to what FROST posted earlier. i think great fighters have lesser chance to become great/best trainers. it's the same way with great NBA players not being able to become successful coaches. bec. IMO the sheer fact that they are talented as hell, i dont think they would be very patient if their fighters/players can't fight/play the way they expect them to. it will frustrate them if their fighters cant perform the way they used to perform when they were still active. but if i have to chose a top tier fighter, it woul be jmm. the man has very good fundamentals, master counterpuncher, has heart, disciplined, and good with executing fight-plans.
lol tyson would be a very scary trainer/coach. you might end up injured before your fights depending on his mood.
