Tough fight, LaMotta puts enormous pressure. And Hopkins counters very well. I would have to say the pressure Jake puts on would get him by in a close decision win. In no way would Hopkins hurt him and Bernard would be backpeddling all night or trapped in a corner. LaMotta 15 Round UD.

I do not usually pick against Hop but his way of countering (setting up the shot and waiting for his opponent to make the first move rather than a huge amount of movement) could well spell disaster; I can see LaMotta just swarming him. However, if Hop can somehow tie Lamotta up on the inside and prove his strength (very, very doubtful IMO) he may be able to sneak a win.

A shame as I'm a massive Hop fan, but I see him bowing out of the tournament here.

    Lamotta via decision.

    lamotta was only roughly 5'8 5'9 .. hopkins is 6'1 ...

lamotta all though does bring none stop pressure i believe hopkins would beable to deal with it fairly easy .. the only part that would bother me with hopkins is his inability to keep up the tempo .. and lord knows lamotta isn't going to be scared and fight hopkins fight .. he's gonna keep coming for him all night ..ducking weaveing throwing body shots ..bullying him ... this is gonna be one cat that just dosn't get gun shy against bhops ... while hopkins would have his moments ..i see lamotta taking this one by a close but wide enough decison not to warrent controversy ..

lamotta is just one fire ball that isn't gonna back off him bad bad match up for bhops

Has anyone here seen a prime Hopkins? I think not, in his younger days he worked at a very very high pace, he was a puncher and was call the Executionor for good reason he was a menace

Hopkins would not only be 1 of the most skilled men Lamotta face but 1 of the biggest men Lamotta would have faced and Robinson who beat him 4/5 times the best skills of any man. However Robinson was much naturally smaller and the only time Lamotta won was when Ray weighed 144lbs, Hopkins was a good 20-28lbs heavier in the ring than Robinson was then. Hopkins punches will have greater affect, he will be much physically stronger and certainly won't be pushed around, he wont be hurt as easily. Hopkins will give Lamotta the same size disadvantages as the B Class LHWs he lost too.

After beating Lamotta Marshall said Lamotta would lose to the rest of the Murderers Row contenders of the time, the only other 2 Lamotta ventured to fight he won controversal decisions against including an old 34yo past it Holman Williams (an ex lightweight with over 150 fights. Robinson was only 144lbs when Lamotta beat him. Zivic beat Lamotta who was barely waying over WW and came close to beating him another couple of times. So in all honesty Lamotta hasnt come near to beating anything like a true middleweight boxing master like Hopkins.

I see Hopkins dominating Lamotta with his superior boxing skills, punnishing Jake's mistakes using his defense to create traps and countering Lamotta, this will be a sustained break down in a fight where Lamotta has few advantages.

    Hopkins late stoppage or UD

I am a MASSIVE Hopkins fan and I'm glad someone is sticking up for him :good

However, there is 0% chance of a stoppage in Hopkins favour. 0%.

is hopkins "prime" when he put out the amazing notoriously all time great glen johnson? .. or was it when he beat 147 pound one armed fighter felix trinidad? .. was it when he droped oscar "i sing for a living now" delahoya? ... or was it his career legend killing win over simon brown? ..

As above. LaMotta UD due to being the aggressor.

All better than Lamotta going life and death with LWs and WWs

Hopkins prime was 97-01, not that you will have seen much of that.

What does Lamotta do better workrate? Thats about it and its not even by much, and everyones workrate drops against Hopkins. Calzaghe brought more pressure, bigger and he still arguably lost against a 43yo Hopkins.

i really don't mind who goes through here, i think both are so great that they are both possible winners in this one. Lamotta makes for a good chess match with that area's master in my opinion, good head movement and jabs, looking for openings by the smaller man, but you would have to ultimately see the master tactician and ring general in Hopkins scoring more often there, in my personal view. Lamotta will definitely exert much pressure here when the middle of the ring stuff isn't going well for him, i still think Hopkins' fighting off the ropes ability enables him to nick a decision, i think he's brilliant at that.
