All Time Flyweight Tournament Round 2: Masao Ohba vs Ricardo Lopez

If it weren`t for Ohba`s suspect chin I would pick him outright, he has the height and reach on Lopez and his rapier like jab is one of the finest of any fighter I have seen at any weight.

However his suspect jaw and vulnerability in the first few rounds makes me wonder wether Lopez might have caught him with something big early in the fight, as we all know once Lopez had you hurt the end wasn`t too far off even for a guy of Ohba`s pedigree I reckon.

With that said though I will assume that Masao will be well aware of Lopez`s power and ability and will fight accordingly and stick to well thought out fightplan and box smartly behind that jab on his way to a hard fought points win while maybe making a trip to the mat at some point in the fight.

This is probably the only one I can really comment on now..seeing I have actually seen some footage of both.

I feel there isnt a hell of a lot between them technically..Ohba has the better jab but from what Ive seen I thought Lopez was better leading with power shots, like his left hook (which Ive seen Masao caught out with a couple of times) and especially his right hand.

Its just hard to speculate how Ricardo's obviously vaunted 105-108 power is going to impact against a fair dinkum flyweight...Because honestly I could see this being the difference.

If it was as good Id be inclined to pick Ricardo actually.

 

I'll pick Lopez

 

lopez hurts ohba along the way and in a close fight a 10-8 could just swing it to lopez so i will take lopez by sd

 

I think that in the long range battle Lopez would win a decision, some power shots would help his cause.

 

Ohba's tendency to start a bit slowly, and occasionally get caught with something big early in the fight might well hurt him against Lopez, who, as stated in the previous thread, was pretty good at chasing down boxers and taking advanatge of what they gave him. Masao's recuperative powers were pretty good, and after falling behind and probably going down at least once in the first couple of rounds, would make a pretty stirring comeback in the middle rounds. But Lopez tended to rise to the occasion, and I think he would have enough in the later rounds to eke out a close decision.

 

I haven't seen a huge amount of Ohba but as others seem to say he gets caught early I'll have to go with Lopez by early stoppage. Ohba's jab was beautiful but I'll go with what I know more of; Lopez by early stoppage.

I'm sure that would change if I'd seen more of Ohba but I'm sticking with Lopez early.

 

I would look to see Ohba outboxing Lopez early on, but the ccasional power punches which stagger Masao on occasion. Begin to build up & become more frequent. finally Ohba cannot shake the power punches off that quickly & Lopez takes over for a late round TKO.

 

I thought you said Lopez never showed he could fight on the inside though?

Well anyway my statement stands, that's my pick, i like Lopez' footwork as some of the nicest i've seen, regardless of the competetition level. He could feint with his feet and lure his man onto shots, a rarity.

That's my pick and reasoning anyway, in a close fight.

 

Still if he has no infighting ability he would likely be exposed by a great boxer such as the man he shares this ring with.

As it is, i like my analysis.
