Can you name one true ATG that Joe Calzaghe is better then?

Think about if or a second. Benitez greatest wins are probably over the older past it Cervantes & Duran...Calzaghes over Eubank & Hopkins. his win over Palomino is probably just above Kessler. Benitez was very skilled and being champ so young puts him high up there, in terms of resume, even though he's fought better quality, he also lost to them.

There have been many ATGs that have been in similiar situations as Joe's, by that I mean dominating their weight class but not have faced quality oppenents because there were none. Joe Louis comes to mind.

Just give the man credit for being the best at his weight for a decade, that IMO makes him great. I think one thing he has going against him was his weight class, 168lbs has never been popular nor has been a hot bed of talent. Most good middleweights will only stop through shortly and than move onto 175lbs.

To answer the question though, I think Joe could have beaten Hopkins at anytime throughout Bhop's career, as well as guys like Giardello, Emile Griffith, Randy Turpin and guys of that nature.

He beat DURAN (way before Hagler or Hearns did).

He lost to a prime UNDEFEATED SRL in the 15th round. Yes, he went over 14 rounds with one of the best boxers of all-time... and did quite well.

He lost to Hearns via Majority Decision AT AGE 34 (which is not the same as age 34 today, closer to age 44 in-fact by today's standards!).

& then after that, he was done... going in win/loss cycles.

+ you want to compare that to Calzaghe's only notable fight where he could have lost being B-Hop... which was controversially split & could easily have gone the other way?

    NoNoNoNoNo.

    jigga, please!

Whether he could have beat them or not is not the issue.
It's whether he is BETTER than them as an ATG. As in comparing careers & accomplishments.

    As previously stated,
joe struggles to make the t10 of p4p for THIS GENERATION.

yes, it is true.. due to the boxing myth that old is ALWAYS gold, some old fighters do get a lil too much hype & post-fab4 fighters not enough... hence leading to an unjust gulf due to unfair expectations of excitement.
(though personally I think we've had more than our fair share during my lifetime in the 90s & this decade!).

However, that don't change the fact that Joe doesn't break the t5 of this generation p4p.

HE COULD HAVE if he had faced and beaten certain fighters in their primes (not talking B-Hop or RJJ even... but rather the likes of Winky, Taylor & Pavlik -- all who wanted to fight him -- & Arthur Abraham... plus also if he had stepped up to Light-heavyweight earlier + beaten some quality, well-sized, young LHWs).

    He didn't.

He may well have been capable of doing so. But he didn't & didn't even try!
    It's his own fault.
