I'll take Hopkins in a competitive decision. I see him getting the better of the action on the outside and doing a good job of keeping it there more often than not, and holding his own on the inside when Jake gets in.

Pryor was outlanding Arguello by a landslide, you have to value punch quality a great great deal to give Arguello rounds and Pryor's punches certainly weren't nearly as big. I didnt count but it seemed like Pryor was outlanding by 10-1, so I suppose its how you value quality over quantity. I didn't think Arguello was landing enough and I thought he was getting broke down. Even in the round where Pryor was reeling he still came back and threw a load more leather

The funny thing is in the rematch Pryor was putting way more on his shots, walking him down and managing to do damage with singles

A lot of that first point is fair comment, and indeed a lot has to do with how well you score Alexis' harder, cleaner shots than Pryor's flurries.

However, I will make the point that in the rounds Pryor was reeling he was also being staved off by a crafty and well-learned jab and that Alexis was going increasingly to the body also.

I had Pryor ahead on points myself, it just was not a 'schooling' or a 'whitewash' as you put it.

The 2nd fight was easier as Pryor had battered Alexis into submission first time round.

Debatable, maybe he was ruined from that fight but is there any evidence of that other than the rematch? I gave Arguello more rounds in the rematch. Sometimes when you've beaten a man once you know you can take his shots, you know what will hurt him and you try walking him down more.

 

It's clear to see. Arguello gets dropped in the first. He's still there, but he's not as intuitive or brave as he is first time round. Not for as long anyway, he fades faster. A pretty good impression that a fighter has declined IMO.
