Pryor to outwork and outspeed Williams to a UD, if he's taking Arguello's best he's take Williams best

 

Did you ever see the Beau Jack stoppage? That is essentially the kind of retaliation Pryor is risking if he wades into Williams as was customary for him back in the day.

I am in your words I believe' an 'Alexis nuthugger' but there's no way Arguello at 140 (stll damn good) was the same challenge as a prime Ike Williams at 135. First and foremost they are different fighters, Williams can be patient like Alexis but he's just as likely to attempt to steamroll Pryor with combinations that Arguello didn't attempt to put together (not a slight on Alexis but an OBSERVATION ON STYLES, try it sometime)

Also, 135 is Williams' best weight, and Arguello's was arguably 130 lbs.

Now, a few things; I also picked Pryor. But not for your reasons. I posted a slightly more expansive analysis than yours. It wasn't shatter proof by any means, and to be honest I've started thinking it may've been the wrong pick. But not because of Pryor. I still think it could go either way and I will stick with my pick.

But that's because I take more things into account than 'if he can take Arguello's best he's taking Williams'.

Thought it'd be a harder decision for you, this. For reasons which will get me banned for typing but that everyone else understands

 

I see Pryor outboxing him, beating him to the punch, setting a relentless pace and sure he'll take punches but less in return and Pryors chin is proven. Pryor had an underrated defensive and defensive footwork when he wanted to

Not that underrated as a few people have already mentioned it.

In fact I think I mentioned it was 'underrated' and soon saw that this wasn't the case:good

If Pryor set a 'relentless pace' he'd be ****ed in my opinion. He could do it in spurts but would need to set a more controlled pace, as he did in the mid-to-later rounds in that, ahem, 'whitewash' of Arguello. Offset Williams counter punches by slowing his footspeed down and then up again, darting from side-to-side and not being lured by Williams' feints.

Pryor had a fantastic chin, but could not survive Alexis without a few rounds of boxing and moving. He would need to repeat this against Williams, as you noted, but IMO for longer spells than he did against Arguello.

I didnt read the thread tbh and I only made an off the cuff prediction.

I think Williams won't be able to set and plant his feet against Pryors movement though because Williams seriously liked to set his feet. There can be over emphasis on unbeaten records but Williams wasnt invinsible in his prime and has a patchy record in places.

Its easy to look at a highlight reel and say he's going to do the same to a better fighter. Who knows maybe Williams sparks him but I doubt it
