He never will. Trinidad was already a legend by this point in Cotto's career. That doesnt mean he isnt one hell of a fighter though.

tough one...REALLY dominate welter to start. put up ten solid defenses (say 8 by knockout) against the best competition out there. rematching and beating margarito would help

That's a long shot. Cotto cannot surpass Trinidad.

I dont know why people are saying he CANT pass tito... titos best win is arguably Fernando Vargas

If Cotto goes on to beat

Berto (and berto then goes on to do good things at 147 or 54)
    Pac
    Floyd Mayweather
    Margarito KO in rematch

and vanquishes Mosley to regain the true welterweight championship....

add lets say he fought Williams after williams beats pavlik (if) and somehow beats him, then i WOULD rank cotto ahead of tito.

Not impossible. Everyone blurting out "Never!" isn't thinking too terribly hard on the subject.

Trinidad packed it up and stopped fighting consistently VERY early. Cotto improving and consistently fighting top tier opposition well beyond the stage where Tito was out of the game, how would he not be greater?

Trinidad certainly never had the opportunity to establish his place in history like Cotto will soon have against a prime, rampaging Pacquiao.

It'll be almost impossible to do if he hangs em up at 30 like he says he wants. But beating Pacquiao will definately get him alot closer.

I think beating Pacquiao and then beating Mayweather back2back imo will surpass Trinidad.
