    When? I missed that..

He would have to beat Pac and Floyd..and I don't think he can beat Floyd..

And he will NEVER pass Tito in terms of popularity among Puerto Ricans..

Why it doesn't make sense? This guy that started this thread ask a question and most responded. Trinidad was a great fighter but imo i think beating Pacquiao and Mayweather back2back with already have fighters like Torres, Paulie, Judah, Quintana, Mosley, Clottey in Cotto resumes with Pacquiao and Mayweather ( if cotto beat those last 2) then his resume could be better then Trinidad imo. Yes Trinidad beat a prime De la hoya but mostly alot of ppl thought Oscar won that fight.

Definetely, beating these two fighters alone would put him past Trinidad.
P4P fighters in Pac and floyd, also his wins over Mosley(Trinidad never fought him), Judah, and Clottey only add to this. Awesome resume if he could pull off even Pac alone!

Cotto will have to do a lot in order to surpass Trinidad. I'm not talking a lot of fights, but he'll need to beat Pacquiao, Mayweather, and likely Mosley in a rematch. That's a tall order because they're top level elites.

do you mean his resume and ranking or standing with the PR people? he'll never surpass Tito Trinidad in the latter because Trinidad was such a charismatic character who put his heart on his sleeve and captured the imagination of the people, in terms of the former i think a big win over Pacquiao would equal or pass any Trinidad win.

as he is too small to be a middleweight...

as his frame doesn't allow him to move up through the weights that easily.. he'd have to concentrate on quality of fights & foes conquered at the weights he can fight at without being small.

    so,

he would have to unify the welterweight belts, make like 10 good defences in a row.
then move up to 154 & unify the belts there and make 5+ good defences there.

He won't do it... he hasn't left himself enough time.

Luckily for him there's not much going on at 154. Mayorga would be the biggest name.
And he was close to fighting him before at 154. If Mayorga can pick up a belt, let's have it before Cotto retires!

but yeah, he won't surpass Tito.

    JuanMa should, though.

122, 126, 130 <--- JuanMa should deffo win belts here [already has at 122!]

135 & 140 <--- I'm pretty sure he'll win belts here too [[and this would be enough to surpass Tito]]

147 <--- as long as the hunger remains throughout his career & has a good team + carries his power & strength up here.

6 weight-world champ potentially... who after he leaves 122 should stay undefeated until he runs into say Y. Gamboa at 126... or even Linares at 130 (maybe 135 by that time) or 135 (Juan Diaz to name but one young fighter who will still be around) and 140 (Bradley, Maidana & Khan).

Khan getting knocked out by a former 122lb champ. Oh Lord! have mercy!

I think he would have to defeat Pac, Mayweather, Margarito, Clottey(more convincingly), maybe Berto, and paul williams

until he wins a title at 154. It's not close.

[unless he stays at 147: whoops Pac, rematches Shane & whoops him, rematches Margarito & TKOs him like SSM did in emphatic fashion, rematches Clottey and wins decisively, beats Berto... i don't think he has to even think about Paul Williams if he does all of the above]

A hell of a lot in my book..but beating Pac is a hell of a lot it must be said.

If he can do that, stamp his authority on the division and clean it out..maybe pick another title at 154, but he would be better off just fighting better fighters at 147.

Then he could probably do it but it will take some work and some impressive peformances..At this stage though not only does Tito have him for resume, he is just straight up the better fighter.

This from a huuuuuuuggge Cotto fan.
