Nothing he can do to surpass Tito ... Tito at Cotto's age already won championships at 3 different weight classes, beat 14 champions, had 20 championship fights, set the IBF record for title defenses ... fought in the highest grossing fight in history (at the time) and was considered by many p4p #1 during his undefeated streak.

He never will. Stop dreaming. Cotto is one hell of a fighter, but trinidad is in a whole nother level. If cotto beats pac, KO margo, KO PBF, KO SSM, KO paul williams.... move up to middleweight, then KO pavlik,...dominate at least 3 div ( 147, 154, 160) he still wont have half the stature trinidad had, even with better accomplishments. In other words, IT WONT HAPPEN!!

Yori Boy Campos 56-0/ gave him his first loss and by KO
Oscar De La Hoya 31-0/ gave Oscar his first loss
David Reid 14-0/ gave Reid his first loss
Fernando Vargas 20-0/ gave Vargas first loss
William Joppy 32-1-1 / gave Joppy first knockout loss
    Hector Camacho 43-2
    Pernell Whitaker 40-2-1
    Oba Carr 32-0

Fought more undefeated fighters than a Emanuel Agustus
    unified 2 weight classes
    5 world titles

Cotto will never be able to do that ... Even his losses were to more accomplished fighters.

i think that would do it for me too. ESPECIALLY if he somehow managed to beat floyd and williams. i just don't see those fights ever happening.

I think this is why he won't be rated of Tito. Not for the skill, but because Tito was in the sport first.... I can't really explain it. It's kind of like how we give the older fighters more credit than the newer ones, like Ali and such. Simply because they were there first. It's the same in this situation

IF he beats Pac and Floyd, you can argue anything for the guy if you ask me. I think people are under-rating how massive a deal beating both of them are. Two top 40 ATG's at their peak?

Anyone saying he has to beat Pac, Mayweather, Williams, Mosely, Clottey and Margarito has to think this one through again imo. :think

There may be some truth in that, but in this case it's quite clear to me at least, that Felix Trinidad was easily a greater fighter than Cotto..

I agree. Tito was a great icon of the sport and has been around way longer than Cotto. It doesn't seem right for Cotto to be able to surpass him. Even though win for win resume-wise Cotto may end his career very close to Tito

I think people will be willing to overlook Cotto's loss to Margarito even if a rematch never happens because of the suspicion surrounding Margarito. But if Cotto beats Pacquiao, Mayweather, dominates WW with a few defences against the likes of Berto and then maybe goes on to wins a title at LMW, then there's no reason why that wouldn't at least equal Trinidads achievements. You could however argue that beating Pacquiao and Mayweather would be enough as these two fighters are better than anything on Trinidadsd resume.

I think if he beats Pac, PBF and Margo he's ahead of Tito. Don't think he'll do it though.

Cotto would have to win the WW title, defend it about 8 times.

Move up to 154 and fight the 2 best title holders and whip they asses.

Then move up to Middleweight, enter a tourny and beat a respected title holder on a winning streak. Then he has to fight and beat B-hop who would still be fighting at the time.

Until then He can enjoy the shade of Tito's shadow.
