Has anyone seen this one fight comeback of Joe's? I'm just interested and curious to see if there's any recordings of it. What are your thoughts on it? Does Joe have any moments? How does he look after taking 5 years off?
Two sad fights of 1981. Ali v Berbick and this thread's one. It was sad,and Joe could only go through the motions, really. It was scored a draw, but that was out of sentiment,I think. Cummings just about took it. IMO.
i have this fight and must agree although frazier of 81 would of beat the ali of the holmes fight :yep
yeah on disc but not the whole fight ,will check later to see how many rounds but am sure i have at least half
I got the goddamn fight from '81 on tape.... The production was low-budget, but its available........ Frazier was heavy but not overly gross looking at 229 pounds and age 37, while the younger Jumbo Cummings was chisled with muscle......... Frazier's hook was there, but rusty....... Cummings had little skill....... The fight itself was NOT great; merely competitive........ People think Cummings deserved the win, but I felt the draw was fair / okay..... bbb MR.BILL
i actually have this fight downloaded..joe puts in a fair effort but age and ring rust is prevalent and jumbo nearly ko's frazier 3 separate times during the bout..the draw was a gift no question
Thanks for posting OBC. Nice article. I caught a bit of a smile when I read --After the weigh-in, Ali called Frazier from his headquarters in the Bahamas, where he was trying to trim his bulk for his own strange comeback this Friday night against Trevor Berbick. "We got to make the old men proud," Ali said. "I hear you," said Joe. "I'm gonna hold my end of the deal up." "We're old men and we gotta show the world we can do it," Ali said.-- Too bad it didn't go that way for both of them. That would've been almost too sweet.
