Just saw the fight, pretty uninteresting, but still watchable. Spinks/Qawi Round 1: 10-9 Round 2: 9-10 Round 3: 10-9 Round 4: 10-9 Round 5: 10-9 Round 6: 9-10 Round 7: 10-9 Round 8: 8-10 Round 9: 9-10 Round 10: 10-9 Round 11: 10-9 Round 12: 10-9 Round 13: 10-9 Round 14: 9-10 Round 15: 10-9 144-140 Spinks
I don't recall exactly how I scored the fight but I do remember not counting the knockdown. I don't see why someone who can obviously see that it wasn't a knockdown would count it in the first place; as casual observers (and not actual judges who were appointed to scoring the fight) it's not really a big deal to score the round against the ref's word as long it's justified (which in this case it blatantly is). If it's not a knockdown, I'm not gonna score it as one. Plain and simple.
Your analysis here completely contradicts itself. You claim that Qawi "didn't show up to fight" against Davis, but the way he came out in the first round means he DID show up to fight. All that fight proves is that it was still possible for an opponent to blunt Qawi's attack somewhat and slow the pace even when he did show up to fight. Besides, what's the big deal about struggling somewhat with Eddie Davis before stopping him? Davis was a good, difficult contender, and Spinks had trouble with him too.
Always wanted but have'nt seen Spinks-Qawi...... Does anyone remember that a rematch was scheduled and was cancelled the day of the fight because Qawi was so far from making weight???? I live in Los Angeles, and and a local channel KCOP channel 13 was to air the fight live.......the announcing crew went on the air only to tell the viewers that the card had been cancelled due to Qawi failing to make weight....... ......in any regards, for those who watched, could Qawi's non performance in his loss to Spinks have anything to do with Qawi possibly having difficulties to make weight??? I do believe that back then, fighters weighed in the day of the fight.
I think you are mixed up with the Eddie Mustafa rematch. Qawi pulled out well prior from memory, had some big drama's possibly including depression or some ****.
It was a long time ago......I've looked it up in search engines and cant find anything about a Spinks-Qawi cancellation.......but I could swear that it was the case because I was looking foward to that rematch and remember it being announced that Qawi failed to make weight. Somebody out there help me, or did I just dream the whole thing over 20 years ago?:nut
Spinks fought only once in 1984, retaining his crown with a twelve-round majority decision over Eddie Davis. He and Qawi were only a couple of weeks away from fighting a rematch in September of that year, but that fight got called off when Qawi was injured during training. I'm tellin' ya, it was Eddie :yep
I don't believe a judge has to score anything 10-8 if he doesn't want to. If a point is specified to be taken away for a foul, then yes, but not a knockdown. I scored it 10-9 and had Spinks winning ten rounds to five.
