And credit has to go to Ricky Hatton for putting on a great show. The whole of Vegas and the UK was buzzing and the energy inside the arena was something boxing will never see again. Hatton fought well in the early rounds, Mayweather was cautious but was pot shoting as Hatton came charing in. The point deduction was a major factor, Hatton lost his head and become demoralised that things wern't going his way and I think the occasion started to get the better of him. And Mayweather put on a boxing clinic, easiest the best of his career. He was fired up and fought the best fight of his career And ill never forget the heart break when Mayweather knocked Hatton out. Never been so disapointed in my life as everyone had fallen into the Hattonmania and beleived Hatton would win. Congratulations Mayweather and good effort Ricky
Don't be too sure you won't see it again. If Tony Jeffries makes it to world level- you will see the same kind of fanbase invading Las Vegas again:yep:good. He has a long way to go, though, so there's no point getting too excited until he steps up his opposition. EDIT: I assumed you were American- if you're not then I'm sorry I've come across as a bit condescendingatsch:good.
This fight was a case of one fighter who wanted to win and the other who didnt want to lose if that makes any sense. Not that much of a entertaining fight to rewatch other than the 1st rd and the Knockout. I still remember watching it live you could just feel the anxiety and hope of the Hatton fans on the board, and every American was a PBF fan for that one night. If Hatton won that fight and retired afterwards he would of probably been dubbed the best UK fighter ever and considered an ATG, but now he'd be lucky to make the HoF. Amazing of how one fight can have so much on the line.
Got to hand it to the Brits, their support of Ricky and Joe was phenomenal. All the fan support and the drama they brought is probably what I'll miss most about both of them.
Show ? He and Mayweather clinched the entire time until round 8. The show was laughable at best Hatton running into the ring post and the drunk fans singing even when he was on his back.
I'd definitely be following Tony to Vegas if he gets that far as he's a local lad and a great lad as well. :good
Great fight and great atmosphere. PBF put on an underrated clinic that night.:deal He figured Ricky out, beat Ricky at his own game, broke him down, set traps and made him dance with the ring post.
:goodYeah he's a top bloke. I think I would travel with a few mates as well if he ever got to Vegas:yep.
Exactly and to build on the point, he used Ricky's aggression against him. Ricky was so convinced he could OUT muscle/out man Floyd. This was the notion based on how Floyd did against Castillio in their first match that some feel Floyd lost. What people tend to forget is that Floyd had a bad shoulder that night but back to this fight. What made Ricky's attack so stupid that night is he normally uses his jab to get inside but for some reason he was coming in head first and up continually. All Floyd did was figure out his pattern. Disrupt his timing with some potshots and clinches. He had Ricky Hatton like a madman. Also you clearly saw how hand speed played a factor in this. One thing I don't like of the latter Floyd is that he doesn't put as many combination together as he once did but this fight he definitely did. Whats funny is people give the first round to ricky but if you look closely Floyd was the one who landed more flush.
I don't understand that either. PBF landed several straight flush right hands on Ricky in that 1st round.
to be honest, THAT is the fight that made me believe in floyd. i knew he had talent but i always wondered what would happen if someone took him out of his comfort zone, if he couldn't fight his fight. what i found was that he not only had a plan a, but plans b-d. the most intelligent fighter in the world and it's not even close. after the 6th i was terrified because floyd had completely figured ricky out...
I think that British boxing fans are the most supportive and loyal boxing fans in the world. Here in Montreal we have Lucien Bute who sells out the Bell Center but I doubt that anyone would travel to go and watch him the way Hatton's fans did.
ehh, that may be because they have the money to do so. the general net worth of the average citizen in the UK is literally 4, 5 and 6 times greater than that of mexico, puerto rico, brazil, the phillippines, etc. if they had the money, i'm sure that they would travel to see their fighters as well.
