Bodypunching in MMA

Have there been competitors in the sport who are proficient in or have effectively used bodypunching in a match?

Gomi used them very well here, although Pulved did pretty well with them too.

Pulver was making his return to MMA after some pro boxing that went pretty well for him, some kickboxing, and some Shootboxing.

Bas' fights in Pancrase (the boots and speedos in the ring) had no punches to the face, so thats why you see so many open handed strikes.

You know I was gonna originally post that no one really uses bodypunches too often in MMA. But how on earth did I forget Bas Rutten?atsch

 

To bring things back to the present, with one of my favorite fighters, here is Robbie Lawler fighting Scott Smith for the second time. As was mentioned in an earlier post, Smith knows all about getting hit with body shots. But Lawler knows all about throwing them.

Yeah,thanks for the videos Beebs.
It would seem logical,given the size of the target the body offers-as opposed to the head, for a MMA fighter to slide in with the left hook to the liver.

I'd think the lack of protection for their hands would be an equal disincentive not to headhunt.

it is worth noting that we don't see too much body punching in MMA because of the use of knees. It's too easy to get caught with a knee to the face when one leans in with a body punch.

 

And while you're here, Arka - who is that Seventies era hottie in your avatar?

 

Maybe it would be better in from the diagonally ,leading with the left hook to the body.I'm thinking particularly of the incredible powerful and well timed liver shot that Tyson landed on Pinklon Thomas before he finished him with about 15 punches .

Maybe a crab style guard that Norton used would protect against an opponent's knees.
