He fought an undefeated Trinidad and an undefeated Ike Quartey. He also fought Genaro Hernandez and Miguel Angel Gonzalez who was 41-0 at the time with ten defences of his title. Who cares if he didn't fight Forrest or Winky?

 

DLH was one of the greatest in my opinion.

 

I'll say he was until 2004 until the Felix Sturm fight . . . after that he made just one more good fight against Mayorga in 2006 the rest I consider a joke.

 

Those are all subjective statements you just made, framed just right for a De La Hoya fan. Instead of offering up opinions, here is a FACT for you. Actually 3:

1. Quartey had been inactive for more than a year before that fight.
2. Quartey was not P4P Top 10 at the time by Ring.
3. Quartey won the fight according to HBO, so whether or not YOU think it was a clear win, the FACT that HBO disagrees with you shows that it was anything but a clearcut win. I thought Quartey won by a point, but it would've been more if not for that amazing last round Oscar put up.

If you want me to pile on more facts to take down the rest of your argument, then let me know. But I'll give you my opinion: Pacquiao's already ahead of De La Hoya all-time.

 

Yes he is. 4 of his 6 losses were close and could have gone either way. He gets unfairly bashed for his shortcomings because he is 1. a pretty boy, 2. he has brains as he became a sucessful promoter and businessman, and lastly 3. by some Mexicans because he beat Julio Cesar Chavez and seen as more American than Mexican being born and raised in LA. (and boxed for US in 1992 olympics)

This video doesn't do Hoya justice. His work at 140, 135, and 130 are ignored. The thing about Hoya is he was one of a kind. I would gladly give all the Mayweathers, Cottos, and Margaritos for one more Hoya who fought everyone, who didn't walk out of stacked divisions but fought his way through them. Seriously, the boxing superstar is not made of just making the "money fight". The boxing superstar comes from having tried for total greatness and often like Icarus falling back to earth.

How's that for facts? Just because you face the best doesn't make you the best. You have to actually WIN.

By your logic then a guy like Vargas should be right up there with Pacquiao and De La Hoya, because like Oscar he faced some top competition. Never mind he went 0-5 from the former champs I name below.

But of course, you can't eat your own logic and save face while doing it, so I'd avoid using that comparison next time if I were you.

Don't mask your true intentions. You hate Pac. You love Oscar. But you can't back it up with facts. It's OK though. Just don't try to deceive the people, especially the new boxing fans who lurk on these boards, by throwing up shaky opinions and then propping them as "fact."

EXAMPLE: Calling someone washed up is an opinion. Saying someone is 0-5 against ATG competition is fact.

Come on, save it for a Pac-hating website or a DLH fan club. Oscar is great, definitely Top 50, but he's been surpassed by a fighter who like him, has won belts in 6 weight classes (FACT AGAIN), but unlike DLH, has won the actual true world linear title in 4 of them (FACT AGAIN), whereas DLH was linear in 2 (FACT AGAIN).
