The general consensus on this site is that Mr Barrows and Mr Clay are the two greatest heavyweights of all time in whatever order you preffer.

What is more controvertial is who is the third best.

    My question to you is:

Excluding Joe Louis and Muhamad Ali who is the greatest heavyweight of all time?

    Larry Holmes...................... Very solid pick......

    Runners up:

    Jack Johnson and Lennox Lewis................

    Extra:

Laugh all you want, but Vitali Klit is the goods................

If somone has said Vitali Klit I'm gonna say George Foreman.

Don't think he would beat Larry Holmes, but George decimated Frazier (unbeaten at the time) and Kenny Norton (2nd round annihilation) and of course has the very respectable comeback.

A man coming back and beating an undefeated two-weight 'World' champion in his 40's is pretty damn impressive in my book.

I think Foreman is underrated. Mainly because a lot of people decided he was overrated a while back.

Saying all that I HAVE selected Holmes above :rofl :good

I would have to say Holmes or Lewis

please note i dont rate fighters before the 1st of January 1920 with fighters after this date as i beleive the sport to be quite different but my view has changed in recent months i still go along with this rule

Why do you rate Liston over Holmes?

    Decide and vote please gentlemen.

We all know who the consensus #1 ans #2 are on this site.

There are five or so fighters who could be the #3.

I would be verry interested to see who comes out on top of this poll.

I promise to make an interesting thread about the winner.

So far Holmes is the front runner.

Better fighter, cleaned out his division, has the most dominant pair of wins ever over another top-line HW, head-to-head horror.

Arguably unbeaten across his prime, and if he lost his at the end of his prime it was to the greatest HW of all time as opposed to a LHW moving up.

By a distance already...unless the Dempsey mafia get mottering I think he'll take it.

    Marciano is a dark horse.

I pretty much have my third spot consisting of a tie between Lewis, Liston, Tyson, and Holmes.

Are you looking for number 3 on Head to Head, Resume, or a combination of both :think

    PErsonally I have

    1. Ali
    2. Lewis (I voted him as 3rd given its assumed Louis is second/first)
    3. Holmes

Louis has great attributes but he's not the complete boxer as those men are
