He beat the guys that were infront of him and contrary to popular belief, he did that early in his career with the likes of Reid, Mitchell, Sheika, Veit and co before finishing off late by being an American vanquisher.

I have him in my Top #5 ATG at 160-175 and about Top 20 in my ATG.

 

Calzaghe is very disrespected, and I belive it's because he doesnt come off as a Joe six pack, he seems almost upper class, and he's white, which is why it's hard for some to relate that image with power??????????????? am I right? or am I wrong????????? just a theory!!!!!!!!!!!!! He had great skills but he never fought the best. And there is enough questions throughout his career, such as many saying he was gifted a W against Reid, dropping the first half of a fight to Kessler who has yet to prove himself and being knocked down and by many opinion beaten by an old Hopkins.

I do remember Nigel earlier in Calzaghe's career,saying that Joe was lucky not to face him at his peak.

his style and attitude also loses fans. not to diminish his talent but his the way in which he fights and his constant justification for relatively weak opposition pisses people off

maybe if he were american it would help him but i don't think it would that much: LOTS of american fighters are hated to (ie: mayweather)
