Never said it wasn't a punch behind the head you ****ing numbskull. Lewis gets hit and hurt and keeps himself out of the way. He definitely runs away after he stumbles forward(He didn't stumble across the whole ring). He even turns around as if to react to Briggs. It's clear he's not just reeling uncontrollable toward the ropes but helping himself to run out of the way. Thinking otherwise would simply be someone in denial. :good
Do you see Lewis's glove just about touch the canvas? How bent over he was? What do you think happens when a 6'5 240lb man stumbles like that? This is stupid, fact is he wasted Briggs, regardless. To point that stumble out as a mark down for an ATG is stupid. What he did through the fight, esp rnd 4/5 is whats important.
I think this is one of the stupidest statements I've read in ages. Last I heard the objective of a fighter was to win the fight. Lewis did this in spades and at one point he even allowed Briggs to take his best shot and countered him. If he got hurt during the fight and when on to compose himself the wasn't all that hurt otherwise he wouldn't have had the intelligence to do something like that. He would have just went down swing. I think you're missing the whole objective of what you're suppose to do in a fight, which is to win. Not do something stupid and macho and lose. You do need a bit of a brain in the ring once in a while. As for him having fighting heart, I don't know what else you call Lewis' performance against Vitali if gutsy isn't one of the words you'd use. Same with Mercer and even the first round with Tyson. I'd go one step further and say getting into the ring with someone who KO'd you in the prior fight such as with Rahman is incredibly gutsy. You certainly have a different view of what heart means than I do. He won both the V.K. fight and the Mercer fight on heart.
Where do you decipher your reasoning from? I never said that was a mark down for him as an ATG. Someone just said didn't he run away from Briggs, another poster said that was bollocks and I disagreed with him. To me it's clear he stumbles a little, then runs away. Who would blame him... his back was towards Briggs at that point. Doesn't make it not true though. Learn what you're arguing about/against before blasting away curses and bickering about the little finer points about something. It would be stupid to mark this down as a reason to not rank Lewis highly. However, I think the original poster of this comment was making a point about his attitude. Either way, take it up with him not me.
I didnt say it was a reason to not rank him highly. But some people think he's top5.. I'm trying to point out that Lewis lacked qualities of other great champions.
I was never a fan of Lewis but became more of a fan towards the latter part of his career, but still, I was far from his biggest fan to put it mildly! However, Lewis is a top-10 all time great HW, latter part of the top-10 for me! Some people try putting Lewis in the top three or five greatest HW's ever, & that's just not feesable! For what its worth, H2H, I think Lewis would have done extremely well, higher than his all time ranking amongst the HW greats!
What is the criteria for an ATG? Head to head matchups? Historical significance/impact? WITHOUT clear criteria we have circuitous, endless debates such as this. Every ship needs a rudder. :smoke
