Joe Calzaghe definately gets a lack of respect, I'm not the biggest fan of Joes either, so I thought I would examine why, could it be because Joe isn't a Joe Six Pack type of guy, he comes off almost upper class, also Joe is white, and those things many people have a hard time relating to power, he's not the image that comes to mind when we think of someone who's undefeated and recently beat Kessler, Hopkins, and Jones. well people lay on the couch ! what do you think?

i have nothing against Joe, I just don't see how he's undefeated... he's a good fighter but.... he doesn't exactly throw punches.... :/

it's not about race, a great fighter is a great fighter, simply put. I don't like when people use race to explain why a person gets discredit when the person has other, much more glaring reasons as to why fans might not think so highly of them.

I think Joe was a very good fighter, but not a "great" fighter like alot of people on this forum and other forums give him credit for. His lofty reconrd most certainly needs to be examined and put into context before people start throwing him up there to mount olympus with the gods.

I don't see Joe as great he didn't fight the best when they were at their best. He didn't want to prove he was the best out there until everyone had gotten old and had been once beaten. If he was great he would have stretched RJJ like Tarver and Johnson. Tarver and Johnson's success came against at least a slightly younger Jones.

like i said in my other post i'll give Calzaghe a little more credit for beating Jones.....Jones is still pretty far back from his prime....but he's still credible.

Its interesting how Jones career goes from here cos it could define Calzaghe's career as well. Weird huh?

yea I think people will look a Cazaghe a little differently, like myself. But Jones almost lost to Anthony Hanshaw back in 07.....which would never happen in his prime (so i'm kind of swinging on the fence here). I still know that Jones would beat Calzaghe very convincingly in their primes maybe even a knockout.

He used to, but had hand injuries so resorted to use that with huge work rate to win fights. Joe should get props... hes a talented fighter.

I think if they faced in their primes Jones probably would of won... but at the end of the day they didn't fight in prime, Joe wanted it but Roy and Bernard were onto bigger and better things at that point, do I blame them? Of course not, but I don't blame Joe either.

I wouldn't go on to say its racism, as in skin color... but maybe it does have something to do with being British... I don't know, it just seems like Boxing is the biggest in the USA and its hard for British fighters to gain the respect in that country (no racism intended, I am British too by the way).

I never said racism, I said race. It's not about race, and how could racism be intended if you're talking about two countries. countries are races
