Both won close, ugly (as is to be expected if you fight and managed to beat Bernard Hopkins) decisions.

Taylor won 2 decisions against a 40 year old Hopkins at 160.

Joe moved up in weight and won a decision against a 43 year old Hopkins at 175.

I left out Mitchell and Jones as those were many years ago, and just felt like comparing these 2.

    Interesting question.

Taylor's second "win" can be ruled out as the first was more clear cut.

I think Hopkins improved with the weight but probably just give the slight edge to Taylor I.

taylor easily because he dared to take that fight.

calzaghe waited until both jones and hopkins were in freefall before 'cementing his legacy'.

I would have to go with Taylor. Simply, whilst the first fight was very close, he squeezed out a UD and there's less arguing the case for Hopkins with this fight than there is with the Calzaghe fight. A clearer, more impressive win.

hopkins was so badly beaten that people think that pavlik would easily beat hopkins, hence they thought hopkins is done. 4-1 underdog in the pavlik fight

    hopkins wasnt badly beaten.

the judges scorercard came came to volume versus quality.

i thought hopkins had that fight at the end - so did the BBC 'expert' with his live commentary.

First Taylor fight I had a draw. Second Taylor fight was a clear yet close win for Taylor, much like the Calzaghe fight. I would compare the rematch against Taylor with the Calzaghe fight in terms of clearly winning a close fight but in different styles for Taylor and Calzaghe.

Hopkins was never badly beaten in any of his losses, not even the one-sided loss to Jones. Calzaghe sure as hell didn't badly beat him, it was a close clear win for Calzaghe. Badly beaten = Lewis/Holyfield I or something similar to that.

then maybe should have 'dominated' him when it mattered.

TBH all fights were close and could easily of went either way.

Hopkins is a hard guy to beat convincingly.

yes it was close. I even have hopkins winning by a point but last the four rounds hopkins was really hurt. He uses his tricks to but time. Just watch the last four rounds and you would see that there is no way bhop would survive if the fight is a 15 rounder..

in the same believe that i feel hopkins would beat taylor in both fights has it been extended to 15 rounds..

Hopkins was never hurt in that fight, please man. I know what I saw and it was Calzaghe who was dropped in the 1st and rocked badly at the end of the 5th from a counter while Hopkins was on the ropes. Calzaghe did what no one did before, he had Hopkins confused and desperate, Hopkins wasn't hurt when he was faking the low blow, he was trying to get a point off Calzaghe knowing he's losing the fight.
