How much do you really know about Edwin Valero? Enough for an informed opinion? Pt. 1

He actually has above average speed. It's just that he is loading up on nearly every punch he throws and he's a decent volume puncher to boot. If he were to flick flurries out ala Amir Khan he would definitely look like he had blazing handspeed. Alcazar should be a very good trainer for someone like Valero. Hopefully he improves his defense to the level that he has shown in much of his sparring videos.

Good point. I never thought he was slow, but yeah, about all of his punches are meant to do damage. I think Alcazar is going to be very good for him. They had just 2 to 3 weeks together for their first fight. I think we will see the dividends fairly quickly.

Everyone says he trains exceptionally hard and he seems to have no bad habits outside the ring. I think he is very dedicated and will listen to Alcazar, but of course it will take a little time to get out of some of the bad habits he fell into during his time fighting outside the U.S.

Fighters I'd probably favor Valero to beat:
    Katsidis
    Casamayor
    David Diaz

    Fighters I see defeating Valero:
    Soto
    Guzman
    Linares
    Marquez

    50-50 fight:
    Funeka
    Juan Diaz
Barrios (love to see this fight!)

And yes, Pacquaio will spark him in less than 5 rounds, because of Valero's brawling style and unkempt long hair.

    Well from last night.

I say Valero could stop Peterson within 5.
