Pudwill was bordering on 2003 you ****ing moron. Plus Calzaghe had just beaten Reid and Woodhall. Why don't we did a little deeper and critisize Hopkins for fighting Hakkar?

Wasn't the Hopkins that Calzaghe BEAT the one who had just beaten Wright and Tarver?? Sounds in pretty good form to me. :deal

Remind me of what he went on to do to Pavlik AFTER Joe beat Hopkins. :rofl

When was Calzaghe a Middleweight anyway? He moved up to avoid De La Hoya. **** me you ARE stupid.

Did he avoid Vitali as well. What about Barrera if not Zelenoff??

If Cal was so hilarious why didnt bhop take the fight, instead he decided (eventully) to skip the division altogether.

Calzaghe's level of competition was pretty respectable at that point, criticism for that is focussed on later in his career.

He had fought a number of top ten SMWs and was regularly being shown on US TV.

    Wow. Great arguement. Pwned.

The fact is that Joe, probably nearing the arse end of his career beat Hopkins who feigned low blows because he couldn't handle the pressure that Calzaghe was putting on him.

Fraud? You're a ****ing clown, you really are.

His resume is very good and if he was such a fraud then Hopkins would surely have turned Joe over. Didn't happen though did it. :think

Because Hopkins just beat Tito and was looking for big fights.

Joe was still fighting flat-out bums in a dead division.:deal

On the contrary, I am absolutely right.

What is the point in having the fight if it is going to be nullified because one guy is "not in his PRIME!11"? Answer: there is none.

These terms only help weak-minded fans that have trouble sleeping because they have trouble with reality.

Fighters may care about being blatantly ducked and blatantly ripped-off and blatantly dissed by the media, but fans take it to a new level with all of this "prime" nonsense.

    Rubbish. :blood

Were Reid, Woodhall and Eubank bums? I fear you have no real understanding of Calzaghe's early career or the SMW division because you are making yourself look a bit of a tit in all honesty. :good

Eubank was old, Reid and Woodhall were solid but nothing special.

Hopkins cashed his ticket to the big leagues by obliterating Tito. If Calzaghe wanted him at that point, say 2002, he should have immediately come over and started campaigning in the States, something he didn't to for about another four years. Hopkins had no reason to chase Joe all the way to England in 2002, there were bigger fights waiting for him at 160.

    Again, Joppy?

Geographical location of fights is fairly overrated. What difference would it have made if Calzaghe had fought Brewer in the US rather than the UK? His fights were already being shown on US TV, which is the relevant point, and it was a US TV network who put together the deal including the fight with Calzaghe which Hopkins turned down.

In Calzaghe's case, you have the strong suspicion-given what he has said in the media-that it is indeed what happened.

He first said that he would give Jones the "hardest fight he's ever been" ,but "he knew his limitations" and so wouldn't fight him.
Years later he said Jones was "shot" and "washed up" and so wouldn't fight him.
They are silly statements, because they would hurt the promotion for a future fight-but they are common sense really.

As for fighters waiting for the right moment to fight an opponent-it is an integral part of boxing. We know a poor matchmaker can ruin the career of even the best prospect and that washed up boxerss look good on a young fighter's resume.
