That doesn't lend itself to making any sense as you and I and the rest will be looking for the north star in different directions. Waste of time measuring something with no means to REALLY measure.
People making heavyweight lists based upon their own criteria generally rate Louis and Ali at one and two in whatever order. This thread, as far as I can see, is about finding out who would come third under these conditions.
Holmes for almost losing to a washed up Norton, Struggling against people like a young Witherspoon, ect ect ect. Holmes for ducking Foreman back in the 70s but now pretending Foreman ducked him. And why is the 3rd best heavyweight? Since when was the first 2 spots automatic? You could say Ali with out there being much of a problem but china chinned Joe Louis wouldnt have beat guys like Bowe,Lewis, Foreman, Ron Lyle, Holyfield, Tyson ect ect ect.
Not really. I am trying to establish who is the third most highly regarded heavyweigfht on this site plain and simple. If different people use different criteria then I wont try to shoe horn them into using the same criteria. Basicaly we know who will end up at #1 and #2 whatever criteria we use but we don't know who is #3 round here.
The overwhelming majority on this site would vote Ali#1 and Louis#2 whether the criteria was acomplishment or head to head. Rightly or wrongly. I am SIMPLY trying to establish who is the third most highly regarded heavyweight on this site so vote for whoever is highest on your list apart from Ali and Louis.
And is that is the case i will say Foreman is the 3rd greatest heavyweight of all time Janitor person
Lol Marciano actually has more votes than Foreman and Mike Tyson combined. Well that only shows who make up this boxing forum doesn't it? Rocky Marciano wouldnt even be in my top 10 cruiserweights of all time
And please tell me why Lewis has so many votes? Again his best wins came over a washed up Holyfield and Tyson but some how that makes him the 3rd greatest heavyweight of all time?
janitor this is a good thread and a good question, I'm sorry you have to "explain" yourself constantly...
I voted Holmes, he was a great fighter with a brilliant left hook and a great right which followed it up!. His length as champion and number of title defences are very impressive, although its not against the best competition. He would also compete well if the top 10 list was based on H2H.
There are two ways you can look at it: You can say that everybody who voted for Lewis is a fool or you can ask why they as inteligent men voted for Lewis and learn a bit more about him. I have changed my opinions on many fighters as a result of what other posters on this site have written.
**** sake............. Too many haters rag on Ol' Len Lewis cause he was bland and got nipped 2 X on the chin for KO losses................ Hells Bells.......... Fact of the matter is, Lewis roared back and won BOTH rematches and beat EVERYBODY else he ever fought prior to retiring in 2003........... When Lennox Lewis was in top form and focused, he was a very tough mother to beat............. Lewis is a top-notch ATG heavyweight......... Nuff said.......... MR.BILL
