Just sent a copy to your e-mail address. Tell me if you have any trouble opening it. I think I have Dempsey's "Championship Fighting" somewhere on my harddrive if you're interested in that as well (I've found some pretty interesting stuff in my archives over the course of this thread...)
You're talking to the most technologically unsavvy people ever born. There's a reason I choose to devote myself to the Classic section.

Yep, it's Dempsey's book. It was given to me in several sections, so I'll have to attach several different PDFs for chapters. Can you read the Fitzsimmons manual and see the pictures on your computer?

Bob Davis ,who was in Fitz's corner for the Corbett fight had this to say about Fitz. Concerning the 6th round knockdown. " Due to the high dry atmosphere of the mountains,4000 feetabove sea level,a crack h developed in Fitz's thick lower lip,and widened by Hickey in training bouts. It would not heal. During the 4th and 5th rdsCorbett reached this tender spot with repeated left jabs. At the beginning of the 6th rd it began to bleed. A thin stream of blood ran down Bob's chin, where it began to smear. Corbett mistook this red badge for something important, and stepped in with considerable vigour. He planted a left on Bob's cheek bone.Bob slipped it off with a slight turn to the right. Both men then mixed it,and ,as Bob came out of the clinch ,he slipped.Corbett was setting himself for a right wallop, but Fitz ,slightly off his balance seized Corbet around the legs and slid down his body to the floor. Not a blow was struck during that entire performance . It was merely a question of one man off his balance. The moment his right knee touched he let go of Corbett, and Siler began to count. Fitz had told Davis he would stop Corbett in 7 rds, ,"which hand ?","left hand", " chin or body?"." "I'll it im somewhere in the body , it aint so easy to it is chin" But Davis , thought that Fitz was too ambitious and typed his story to the New York Journal predicting Fitz by a 14th rd ko from a body shot Between the 6th and 7 th rounds Davis in the corner said to Fitz "here comes the seventh Bob,what are you going to do?" .Fitz replied " I cant get at im ,E's fast wait". Davis says that Fitz knocked out one of Corbett's gold teeth in the 13th round with a short right hand across Corbett's left. Davis avers that Fitz held his arm up to protect his eyes from the sun in the 13th round ,and that Fitz's wife shouted out ,keep out of the sun Bob,he stated this was the only remark she made to her husband the whole fight, so no" Hit him in the slats Bob". Davis says that it was this round in which a stalking Fitz began to plant body blows on Corbett ,and that Corbett showed visible signs of stress. Davis said that between the 13th and 14th round ,Fitz leaned down to him and asked ",ave you got any money on you? " Being assured that Davis had $80 in gold on him, Fitz said,"Bet it all on the next round ,I am going to knock im out". Describing the finish,Fitz said,he" came in with a left hand shift on his wind, and then ,without changing the position of my feet ,shot the same hand against his jaw, thus giving him the identical finish which I administered to Sharkey". Davis asked the doctor who attended Corbett where the punch had landed,on being told it was the solar plexus ,he typed it into his story and the punch was famous ,though it had been in use for decades. Davis stated that when Fitz fought Jeffries the second time he smashed both hands on Jeffries hard head , and had nothing left to fight with ,and although Jeffries face was a mask of blood and cuts ,it was Fitz who was considerably the worse off,he said in the last round Fitz stood in front of Jeffries, extended his arms and said" Hit me Jeff ", Jeffries, then landed the ko.
Corbett put together a fine combination to put Fitz down. Fitz was hurt for that moment, but recovered nicely. I'm not buying Fitz corner man statement where he says the knockdown had to do with Fitz being off balance. I have seen the kd a few times. Its Corbett landing, not Fitz slipping. Maybe Fitz was off balance because he was buzzed. That I could buy.
