Okay this tournament has got to the best bits now, the penultimate round is here. In the previous quarter final stage, ESB Classic fight fans were treated to four boxing bouts between eight of the great lightweights of all times, and different eras.

The forum saw the great Pernell Whitaker overcome the challenge of one of the best uncrowned pugilists ever known in Jack Blacburn, Roberto Duran beat the multi-divisional some time ruler Barney Ross. In a mouth-watering prospect for any fight fan, and especially those of a good clean action fight, Henry Armstrong defeated who might have just been some poster's favourites to win the tournament, the great and admirable Carlos Ortiz. In the only fight of the quarter-finals that might have resulted in what may be labelled an upset, Floyd Mayweather junior beat Ike Williams.

The semis will see Pernell Whitaker fight Henry Armstrong, and Roberto Duran face off with Floyd Mayweather junior. In my hunble opinion this is anyone's crown.

Up to now, in situations where a 12 round fighter has faced a fighter who would be used to a longer distance, the bout has been over 12, however, in what are now the 'championship rounds' of the tournament, all fights are over 15.

    Fights will be out asap.

The question is would the 136lb 20-0 Robinson who beat LW champ Angott box the ears off the lot of them, he would have been a LW champ if he wasnt contracted to come in over the limit

I realised the other day, well into the tournament that i somehow inexplicably forgot about Ken Buchanan. Really sorry everyone, even with a limit of thirty two fighters being in the tournament, he is a given. Noone called for him when i first put out the notice of the tournament though, even Mayweather got called for.

There's no excuse for me leaving him out, what the **** was i playing at?

Never mind Teeto, you did a good job with the tournament.

Why not open a thread matching Buchanan with the tournament runner up to make it up to him?

    I wasn't wrong! For once.

Yeah there is no excuse but, to be fair, although it would've made for some very interesting matchups (and therefore good debate) realistaclly he never would've won. Shame though:good

Will do, it can be like a super bout. Actually i just looked at my initial thread about this tournament, and Ken is one of the thirty two names mentioned in the draft, then he doesn't feature in any of the bouts, don't know what the hell i've done, but it's just too late now. Looks like i mightn't have done such a good job after all!

Not if he was drawn Duran :deal

Seriously though, you've done a bloody good job with the tournament. I guess leaving Buchanan out gave everyone else a chance:deal:lol::good

What about Chavez? Was he in it?

I don't want you to think I'm picking as I've said it's been a genuinely fun tournament; I find myself trying to find names that aren't here now? :rofl

I'm setting myself up for a HARD fall when I get round to doing the Light-Heavys (which I will do once LW, Middle and Fly is done) :good
