People seem to think that Hopkins would totally outclass Jones if they faught a rematch next year.

Im probably gonna get alot of stick for this but i think Roy would beat hopkins by a wide margin because ...

1 As old as roy is Hopkins is still 4 years older.

2 Hopkins is getting rustier by the day as the way things look it will be another 8 months before he fights again if hes waiting for CD v GJ winner making it over a year since he has faught where as roy is staying busy with 3 fights this year 2 already one by stoppage

3 Most importantly and what most people forget is that Roy has already beat hopkins so the blue print is there. And hopkins reaction time has faded since then and hes slowed down where as against lacy roy seemed to be just as fast as he was when they first faught with even more high punch combo which i believe would work perfectly like clazaghe did his best to use against hopkins.

    Roy Jones UD 116 - 112

    Hope someone agrees with me

I'm also with you. I think it would be a very close fight.

RJ isn't one of those one dimensional, slow, and predictable guys that Hopkins flourishes against ala Tarver, Tito and Pavlik.

RJ's hand speed and ring smarts will make it hard for Hopkins to implement a game plan that works to perfection.

I will always root for Roy but Hopkins is a much better fighter since they last fought ..I still beleive Jones speed would be the X factor ..In the times Hopkins lost to Taylor Calzaghe and Jones he was out worked .Its not that crazy to think Hopkins could beat Jones at this stage ..

I mean Jones loses by KO twice then gets starched by Calzaghe ..We have yet to see Bhops even staggered ..So could Hopkins beat him as a Jones fan I say yes but best beleive I would root for Roy to out box him again as he did so many yrs ago ..

no, the fact is Hopkin's style is one that rely's on skill and craftyness, Jones' style relies on his natural athletic ability. Hopkins has not shown any signs to say he's getting rustier by the day so I don't know where you get that from. You can't count the first time Roy beat Hopkins, that was in 1993 well before Hopkins had reached his prime and Jones was at his physical peak. Thats like how people said Taylor was going to beat Pavlik because Taylor had already beaten him in the amatures. Hopkins is just a much smarter fighter than Roy and I assure you he would beat him. I think it would be close though.

Roy in his prime would never lose to any version of Hopkins. Its funny how people say Hopkins has improved a lot since they last fought. Well with Jones only having 22 or 23 fights, I think he improved a lot as well. Jones was simply too quick. You cant do all that BS that Hopkins does if you cant get close. Thats how Jones was able to make James Toney look completely ordinary, because he couldnt get close enough to Jones to do anything. If anything it would be a really interesting fight right now, that Jones is a little slower...

I would say Calzahge waited too long to fight either one of them to make a difference anyway.

I think Jones' antics would just frustrate B-Hop and prevent him from executing a real game plan. Both of them tend not to like pressure, so pressure fighters are their bane. However, neither of them are pressure fighters or volume punchers, so we would just see a counter-puncher fest that would ultimately go to the faster and flashier pot-shotter. That would be Roy.

In terms of activity level, they've both slowed down comparably. I think it would actually go similarly to how the first fight went, just in slow(er) motion!

Well, who knows, it's not like I felt Roy Jones completely outclassed Hopkins in their fight. Jones has slowed down more than Hopkins.

I believe Jones won, what, 8 or 9 out of the 12 rounds in their fight? It was definitely an uncomfortable fight for Jones, and tougher than the Toney fight, no doubt, but it didn't turn out to be a particularly close fight on the cards.

Because it's hard to reconcile what he know about them.

Prime for prime, Roy was "better" in the ring and some would say it's not even close. Past 35, Hopkins has been better and it's not even close. The all time debate skews things also, because where Hopkins is easily and undeniably one of the three or four best middleweights ever, some people try to get cute and leave Roy out of the top ten all time at 175.

As far as a head to head matchup between them in the next couple of years, it's hard to say. We know you can beat Roy these days with power and activity. Hopkins's strengths right now are not in either category. Until I catch a replay of Jones - Lacy, I'm reserving judgment on how much of a chance Roy has to beat Hopkins. He won their first fight almost solely on his reflexes, and while Hopkins isn't offensive minded now the way he was then, he also makes everything count now in a way he didn't then.

I think it's an interesting enough fight, and what's the harm in sending these two off with one last solid payday?

The last world class opponent that Roy Jones defeated was Antonio Tarver in their first fight. ever since then, Roy has either been losing (losing big!), or fighting has-beens and never-wases.

Meanwhile, Hopkins has been fighting with top level opponents; and he has yet to be "decisively" beaten.

people rate bhop better than roy b/c bhop has beaten actual champs in the recent past (hopkins, tarver though now 2-3 years ago) and lost a disputed decision to another champ (calzaghe). whereas roy has only beaten b to b- level guys in the past 5 or so years. that said i think roy could possibly give bhops a good fight for some of the reasons stated
