Anyone else disappointed with the matchmaking on HBO's triple-header this weekend?

True enough the fights haven't even aired yet (obviously) and they could end up playing out totally different from what I'm expecting. But on paper, the match ups are amongst some of the least interesting bouts I've seen HBO put together in quite some time.

    Juan Diaz vs. Paulie Malignaggi
    Robert Guerrero vs. Malcolm Klassen
    Danny Jacobs vs. Ishe Smith

    :huh

This card somewhat reminds me of the uneventful and forgettable triple-header Lou Dibella put together in February 07 (Malignaggi-Cherry, Powell-Smith, and Berto-Bravo). It seems like Golden Boy has put together three undercard fights with no main event. Not only that, but two of those fights feature fighters who are known to be stinkers.

It's frustrating not having HBO put on a card in nearly two months, and when they return it's with a card like this. For the first time in a while an HBO broadcast won't be a priority to me and I wouldn't alter plans to see it, if need be.

Anyone else feel the same...or differently?

I agree with you 100%, Antwun. Diaz and Paulie is okay but I don't expect that fight to be very exciting. The other two could easily be on ESPN. It would have been nice to see better match ups for this.

Right with you, A-Maxx. This card is hardly a consolation for the lack of activity out there.

    I disagree..
We got a career do or die fight for both "Diaz & Mallinaggi"
The continuing progress of Guerrero + Jacobs in his biggest test.

Granted it ain't no 90's Don King card....
But ****, it's good to see HBO back on a sat.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinions but for me the Diaz vs. Malignaggi fight is very intriguing. First of all, I'm a Diaz fan mostly because he is young, hungry, fights aggresively, and has a likable personality. Second of all, both fighters are coming off their biggest loss in their career - Diaz was KO'd by Marquez and Malignaggi was stopped by Hatton. They will both be trying to prove that they belong among the best but only one can win. I see a very entertaining fight, Juan been the aggressor and Paulie been slick. This fight in itself will make me watch the HBO event. :bbb

I've only seen Klassen fight once, which was his last fight against Baloyi. Klassen does seem like a capable fighter and his bout with Guerrero could possibly end up being the saving grace of this card.

I don't feel that Paulie is capable of outworking Juan nor do I seem him being capable of throwing anything to keep Juan honest. So I'm picturing a fight where Juan damn near runs Paulie out of the ring with the only intrigue being does Paulie last the distance.

But if I'm wrong, and the fight plays out like you expect it to, I'd gladly eat crow. :bbb

I'm not overly excited, but I do plan to watch these fights and feel there could be some decent fights.

Im not sure if they are PPV but if its just regular HBO then yeah its a good scrap. Naggi Vs Diaz is gonna be competitive and a great fight since there is not quit in both fighters. Guerrero Vs Klassen should be a good one Klassen is no push over. The only fight I dont like is Jacobs ishe smith cause Jacobs is gonna ice em easy. Pinoy Power and Latin Fury are worse trust me.

If Baby Bull was in there with a legitimate threat it would be a solid card but we all know he's going to beat Malignaggi and even if and when Diaz looks impressive, we still won't know if he has fully recovered physically and mentally from the Marquez lost. So yeah Antwuan I agree with you 100%.

Good point, Benny. I think Diaz handles Paulie easily, just walks him down and punishes him over the distance or until it's stopped. I don't think Paulie hits hard enough to keep Juan at bay. And like you said, we still won't know what happens the next time Juan meets somebody who can actually punch.

I can't believe HBO is putting Ishe Smith back on TV. He is awful and boring.

It's npt necessarily him they are putting on TV, it's Danny Jacobs who is the reason they are putting him on TV, by all accounts HBO and Golden Boy are hoping Jacobs knocks out Ishe in 5 rounds or less.
