Just want to get your opinion on this guys.

If Mundine had stayed in SMW and Defended his belt successfully, do you think he would have been included in the Super 6 tournament (lets assume the defense was not against Kessler as he is also in the tournament)? If so who of the current 6 would have missed out?

Yep its based on fan base/attention/interest. Dirrell Or Ward would have missed out. Or possibly even Abraham. Depending on the ratio of Europe and US fighters the producers wanted.

No he wouldn't because he would have had to have fought much much more credible opponents over the last 3 yrs or so then the bums and journeymen that have been taking him the distance and he probably would have not won all his fights in that time. All the boxers in the super 6 would beat Mundine in 2009/2010 imo and some by stoppage.

Mundine would never have agreed to be part of something like that - he considers himself above such things.

Makes me think he must have seen it coming, which is why he ran down to MW, although, to be fair, he also had Kessler breathing down his neck at SMW.

Mundine didn't want any of Kessler again. He knew he couldn't compete with Kessler and pathetically gave up his "world title" with a BS excuse that he wanted to be a middleweight world champ. He had to go down to 160 as he would have looked like a real sad case if he gave up his 168 title because he was scared to face Kessler again then still continue fighting at 168.

For a mid 30's fighter, a tournament where there's a series of closely sceduled fights and none of them easy, could quickly mean the end of the road.

No chance! Mundine brings to the table zip when compared with Dirrell, Ward or Abraham.

Why would Showtime want to limit their exposure in the US or Germany (two massive markets) to accomodate a minor market like Australia?

We all know the way Mundine operates and we can assume that if he had stayed as a super middle he would have continued to base himself in Australia (a'la his current modus operandi) and fought a conga line of chumps thereby making him our very own Zsolt Erdei. Bearing this in mind this is how the conversation would have gone between Showtime staff when contemplating Mundine:

Showtime Executive 1: "OK! We've got Froch, Kessler, Abraham, Taylor and Ward. Space left for one more! Who do we go with! My preference is for an exciting, up and coming American!"

Showtime Executive 2: "What about an Aussie like Anthony Mundine?"

Showtime Executive 1: "Who the **** is Anthony Mundine?"

Showtime Executive 2: "He is that big mouthed Aussie who was knocked out by Sven Ottke (Both start pissing themselves laughing and guffawing uncontrollably), got dropped by Manny Siacca and Crazy Kim (continue pissing themselves laughing and guffawing uncontrollably) and whose most significant victories are over Antwon Echols and Sam Soliman" (Explsoion of laughter)

10 minute break whilst they compose themselves.

Showtime Executive 1: "I remember that ****ing idiot! What is he up to now".

Showtime Executive 2: "He has defended his title 7 times including 3 successful defences against the great Soon Botes and another two against ring legend Darmel Castillo".

Showtime Executive 1: "Wow! What a ****ing record! Very tempting but I think we will go with one of our own".

Elias Nasser has told me that the winner of Victor Oganov and Alan Green will be the first reserve for the Super 6.
It should be great he has lined up in America - Oganov v Green for October, Lenny Zappa on the Chad Dawson undercard on HBO for November and The Bull for December.
Great for Aussie boxing and for the boys involved. Aussie aussie aussie !

The fact that your comparing erdei to a guy who has fought echolls, kessler and danny green is laughable. You also show your genius through being unable to understand its about selling decent amounts of seats at home bouts during the super 6.

Also on the Oganov thing, i heard that fell through. But if it didn't im happy because i think Vics a chance.

And you show your genius by rating the likes of Echolls and Green or thinking Showtime gives two shits about Mundine's selling power in Australia!

Mundine is a MW now and was never in contention for the super 6.

If he was still at SMW I think he would have been great for the super 6......for 1 reason......they need a villain :deal

Look im not here to just talk up Mundine all the time. He has made some very poor decisions over the past two years. But if he was still at SMW, even if he vacated against Kessler, he would still be well inside the top 6 and in the tournament. Saying he wouldn't is incorrect.
