"Plenty" means at least 10 or more. Name 10 fighters that are better than Ruiz. **** it, name 8 fighters that are defninitely better than him. Yeah, Valuev surely did beat the hell out of Ruiz especially in their first fight. Anyway, for a fighter to be able to knock down and beat the iron-chinned Evander Holyfield, well he must be good, eh? :deal
I started doing ten, and ended up at 15 - and could probably go further. Ruiz is a talentless palooka who can't win a fight against decent competition without holding excessively, or - like he did against Holyfield in their second fight to avoid getting counted out when hit with a body shot - faking "low blows." :nod Ruiz is probably the least talented fighter to ever hold a HW belt - without King to grease the wheels for his illegal and disreputable tactics, he would have lost every fight he had above the tomato can level. 1. Wlad Klitscho 2. Vitali Klitschko 3. Nicolai Valuev 4. Alexander Povetkin 5. Ruslan Chagaev 6. Eddie Chambers 7. Chris Arreola 8. David Haye 9. Sultan Ibragimov 10. Same Peter 11. Alexander Dimitrenko 12. Denis Boystov 13. Oleg Maskaev 14. Lamon Brewster 15. Juan Carlos Gomez
Umm... how did he knock down Holyfield then, by faking low blows? :deal I agree that the guy isn't talented and his style is very boring, but he certainly is an over-achiever. Anyway, your view on Ruiz has zero credibility, as you are known for hating the guy's guts - probably cause he, a talentless palooka, managed to knock down and beat an all-time great in Evander Holyfield, who happens to be your favourite fighter (yeah, Holy never used dirty/illegal tactics in his fights-I don't see you criticizing him for that though). Just cause you write them down, it doesn't mean they are better. Dimitrenko? Maskaev?? Brewster??? You honestly think those guys would definitely beat Ruiz right now? Come on. And the third name you mentioned should have at least one loss in his record - by Ruiz.
He beat Valuev TWICE, you can't deny that. :deal Both Klitschkos whop his ass if he tried to fight them.
Of course I can deny that. He lost two close decisions to a mediocre fighter. Why?? Because he's mediocre himself.:yep Without King pulling the strings, Ruiz is just another high-grade clubfighter. I don't hear you making any stink about the many gift decisions Ruiz himself received either - the worst being the Golota fight, where Ruiz hit the canvas twice, lost another point for one of his illegal manuevers (a rarity), and landed LESS punches, and yet still got the decision. And that's just one of the MANY dodgy things that King's influence got Ruiz!!!
Ok, Ruiz is mediocre, boring, uses dirty/illegal tactics, and has received gift decisions. All of that is true. What's not true is that there are plenty of other heavyweights out there right now that are clearly better than him. The third fighter that came to your mind as a better fighter than Ruiz (Valuev), should have lost at least one of their fights, any objective fan that watched those fights would say this. So, what's your point? Do you honestly think Ruiz shouldn't fight on, cause the HW division is filled with talent, so he doesn't have a place in the HW picture? Do you actually have a point? Truth is you hate the guy and you saw this thread as an opportunity to lash out on him for one more time (I bet that about 1.000 of your posts are about how useless Ruiz is). Change the friggin record, Zak.
Everybody has a specialty, something that interests them. This is mine. My point is that it is pretty damn outrageous that Ruiz is ranked as high as he is when he has lost 3 out of his last 5 fights, and the two victories were against some tomato can and washed up former fringe contender Jameel McCline!!! His last recorded "win" against a top rated contender was in 2004 - the highly disputed decision against Golota!! And yet he STILL lingers in the ratings. That, like the corruption that accounts for Ruiz's rise in the rankings in the first place, stinks!!!:yep
A John Ruiz specialist, oh my. :rofl Well, if that's the case, then knock yourself out. No arguments here. He is ranked too high. Still, in todays HW picture he surely has a place, that's all I'm saying.
Ruiz is awful and no he did not beat Valuev who is also awful. You can't even score Ruiz fights because the mother****er does not even Box he grabs, clinches, holds, wrestles etc. It is IMPOSSIBLE to accurately score a John Ruiz fight. All of you people saying Ruiz beat this guy or that guy are full of ****. The guy can't fight period. Not to mention he is a Heavyweight and has a whopping TWO KNOCKOUTS THIS ENTIRE DECADE! That is abysmal.
