That's a good point. Why the hell did they agree to this fight if Pavlik wasn't even cleared to fight and was supposedly battling a staph infection for 5 to 6 months? You would think that they would make sure that was cleared up first(if indeed it had been a problem for 5 to 6 months), before they agreed to fight anyone. Pavlik also supposedly had a 100 degree fever and bronchitis when he fought Hopkins. Maybe this guy has a comprimised immune system.

 

I personally think that the infection flared up out of nowhere on him and caught the camp by surprise. I dont think it was intentional given the fact that they were in negotiations for months.

 

Pavlik has been looking to unify since the dawn of time. The first thing he said when he first won those belts was "unification". Sturm doesn't want to fight; AA's moved up; so that's not on the cards.

Williams - whom Pavlik picked - is the best fight around for him right now.

As for why they made the fight with Pavlik injured: it's unlikely they knew.

 

More notable names? And just exactly who is more notable than Jermain Taylor and Bernard Hopkins? He fought those guys while Arthur Abraham fight Elvin Ayala and Raul Maquez! Around the same time as those fights Sturm fought Pittman and Sylvester. Now please tell me, who fought the "more notable names?"

You said he should have unified, and then at the same time you're insinuating that he should not have fought Rubio or Lockett. Since those guys were both mandatories, you assertions make absolutely no sense.

 

I'm really getting tired of trying to talk to people who simply are not willing to learn anything. There is NOTHING UNUSUAL about reccuring problems with a staph infection. There have actually been cases where a victim seemed fine at bedtime, and was dead before morning.

Oh hell no. The SMW has a very tight schedule and although all 6 fighters are healthy and very professional outside of the ring, injuries, illnesses, pull-outs and personal issues can and I'm afraid at some point will happen.

Now Kelly Pavlik has produced ALL of these unfortunate factors, injuries, illnesses, personal issues and pull-outs in a short time, it seems too much **** happens around him. No offense, but the tourney needs a lot more dedication and professionalism to keep it together.

It's a great thing Kelly signed for the Williams fight, so he should concectrate to pull his stuff together, and IMO, although Booradley will disagree, he should simply leave YT and Loew and find another place and trainer for better focus. It helped so many fighters in the past.

 

i think the article says that his hand is just generally infected. the staph is gone and the doctor said it was fine, so he stopped going to appointments. the wounded knuckle got infected after the staph was removed. this would not be as serious as a staph infection but of course takes time to heal (the article says IV drip is required).
i don't think williams should wait. he loses money by waiting and he potentially loses some ring chops as well from inactivity. he should fight cintron or someone else in october if he can and then fight whoever wins the KP fight in december.

 

One thing is certain, Pavlik shouldn't stick around in his hometown to the docs there, but visit someone who is an EXPERT on that matter. If he catches some serious infection, it could end his career, if not life. Several soccer pros died or broke down when they failed to treat infections well and immediately, most often if that spreads to the heart and causes a pericarditis. You can just drop down dead in training every moment if you get that, it happened like 6-8 times in the last couple of years in pro soccer.

 

the man gained #1 contender status knocking out Edison Miranda, then took the titles by KNOCKING OUT an undefeated Jermain Taylor (who beat B-hop twice), beat Jermain Taylor in a rematch at a catchweight, beat the ever loving **** out of Gary Lockett who was a mandatory for the title, fought and lost to B-hop at a catchweight(no shame in that, the man is a living legend), beat the **** out of Marco Antonio Rubio who was another mandatory. Now he has signed to fight Paul Williams who is on just about everyones pound for pound list for the titles once his staph infection clears up. theres not many people in boxing with a six fight streak wiht a seventh fight lined up like that. everyone is disappointed about no fight with A.A. but due to politics or whatever i very truely believe that neither pav nor abraham ducked the other and pavs last six beats every other middle weights last six out there by far

 

Yeah, that's why he told Arum to stuff the other four fighters HBO proposed, ASKED for Williams, and told Dunkin to make whatever sacrificies were necessary to land the fight. atschatschatsch
