i don't think giovanni segura can be considered a prospect cause he's already a world champion. but i did leave out some big names as well like: antonio escalante jcc jr. chris arreola chris avalos carlos cuadras charles huerta jorge paez jr. juan carlos salgado robert marroquin miguel beltran jr. mahroni montes alejandro sanabria vicente escobedo brandon rios josesito lopez omar chavez and many, many more!
WTF? Ortiz and Diaz are not Mexican. They're half-Mexican at best. They're more American than Mexican.
Come on! They all have Mexican blood. That's like saying black fighters are just American and not African-American cause they were born and raised here. That's some bs
i don't see any mexicans on the rise who are really destined for stardom. After Marquez retires I think it'll be at least a year before a mexican makes the top10 p4p list.
Meh to half of those guys. Mares should be able to win a title or two, although I'm not sure he'll ever be a star because he's much more of a safety-first fighter than most of the Mexicans. Alvarez looks very promising for his age, but he has some physical limitations that concern me. Marquez is just raw as hell and hasn't fought good comp yet, so there are a lot of unanswered questions; he's in a similar boat to what Valero was in a few years ago. Mikey Garcia is American, not Mexican. He was born and bred in the US and fought in the US Olympic qualifiers. I do like him though. Hard to tell with Hernandez. He's got an exciting style, but he also has some physical limitations, and has been going life and death with rugged journeymen. He's still young enough to turn it around though. I never really understood the attraction about DeMarco. He reminds me a ton of Delvin Rodriguez. The way he beat Kid Diamond was impressive, but I feel like he doesn't use his size that well, and is too slow to not be someone who uses his size. Ramos doesn't look like anything too special to me, plus he's American born and bred. Can't say I've seen the other ones, or if I have, they didn't leave enough of an impression on me for me to remember them.
Edgar Sosa could get there if he keeps up what he's been doing. He won't be a star, but he could easily pop into the top 10 if he beats Calderon, a fight that's been rumored if Calderon wins his upcoming fight.
I know this is off the topic! But ohh well... Chris arreola had a t-shirt last week that read '" I am the mexican american dream"! No hes not!! BS!!! Juan diaz is the mexican-american dream, Hes a good kid and a helluva boxer! And he even got his BA from houston university!! Cool kid
hey brick: It doesnt matter where the fighters were born! Fernando vargas was born in california! But ask him what he is?? Hes chicano, mexican!! Hes just a mexican who speaks english and spanish!!
Scar I think you should check out Saul "Canelo" Alvarez he is developing still but he at moments shows a lot of promise. I think he needs to be tested before elevating him to a solid Contender but he looks to be among the best rising star. Interesrtingly he says that Chavez Jr. is a big joke.
Last I checked marquez wasn't the only Mexican on the top 10 p4p list. R. Marquez and israel vasquez are both on there too. So even if jmm there's still at least two more mexicans on the p4p list
The Mexican fanbase (people actually in Mexico) NEVER embrace the Mexican-Americans like the true Mexicans. Simple as that. They never embraced Oscar. They never embraced Vargas. They never embraced Juan Diaz. If he becomes champ, I doubt they'll embrace Arreola. THAT's why it matters if the fighter is a true Mexican or just a Mexican-American.
