It will be HBO doesn't go up against baseball, Arum doesn't like to either. This thread is **** and belongs in the toliet.
Just the opposite buddy. I was gutted when I first found out about the postponement. Pavik is ripe for the picking now and imv he's the one that's benefiting from the extra time to prepare.
On fight night a 162 pounds of Paul Williams would not last 5 rounds with a 171 pounds of Kelly Pavlik. Six weeks is a long time if used correctly. Proper nutrition and training means PW would have a good chance of off setting the size difference. If he did that, his chances go way up. Unfortunately, Goosen appears to be firmly set on using the post ponement as an opportunity to buy Williams yet another stay of execution.
it was either arum or dunkin who said they were gonna get to the bottom of this...i hope we hear something soon. im curious as to why kelly doesnt come out and said something. a lot of people are kicking kelly now that he's down...hopefully he can use this as motivation. he's only 27 and i know in my heart a healthy and motivated pav can manhandle pwilly along w/ anyone who steps in the ring w/ him at mw. but having said that i have no idea whatsoever (and neither does anyone else despite what some are saying) what's going on in that head of his.
Yes, I see. Pavlik is actually doing Williams a favour here. Hard to know which of you two has less credibility !
:huh [yt]I8Vsi5moA08[/yt] Watch his lateral movement and the way he cuts off the ring. Watch the footwork. Watch him stick the jab and work off of it. Watch him vary his offense (and get his feet set in such a position to throw, but still be defensively aware), all while using angles to control the distance between the two of them. Watch the insane head movement. If you dont consider this boxing while moving...well, I just dont know what to say then. As I said, this "Williams doesnt box" is getting as cliched as the people saying his defense is bad. If we were talking the Williams of the Quintana fight, then Id agree, but that loss awoke something in him. He is no longer one dimensional (a busy workrate), he is no longer a defensive liability...and he is no longer a stationary fighter (rather than a boxer). Ive said it before...the improvement between the 1st Quintana fight to the Phillips fight is the type of improvement that most fighters dont see over a career...and the kicker is, he improved by an even greater margin from Phillips to Winky.
Where are you getting 162 lbs from? Is that what he weighed for his fight against Winky? In his first fight against Quintana HBO reported that he gained nearly 20 lbs between the weigh in and fight which would have made him close to 167 lbs.
Paul didn't need any extra anything lol. PW is going in thinking he can win, and he signed kowing how much time he had before the postponement lol. It is you who is truly worried now Brad lol... You are a deceptive poster Braaaaaad!!! lol
hell i'm nervous about this fight... i believe it in my heart that a healthy and motivated pav would dismantle pwilly...but is pav healthy and motivated?? well we damn sure know he aint healthy. so that leaves motivated...well we havent heard from him really since he threw the smw tourney under the bus (which i can't defend) so i have no idea if he is which is why i'm nervous.
When did I say KP was doing him a favour? I was just pointing out that PW is at a serious disadvantage weight-wise.
Perhaps we're misunderstanding each-other here, or perhaps you're deliberately straw-manning. I'm not saying PW can't move, or that he can't slip punches, or that he's some kind of plodder, or that he's slow, or that he can't box. He's an excellent boxer. My case was, simply, this: Paul Williams does not throw meaningful punches on the move. He may jab from outside, naturally; but to get is combinations off he tends to stand in front of an opponent, size them up for a couple of seconds, and then unload. Against most fighters he can get away with that, since most fighters aren't tall enough, rangy enough or strong enough to cope with him. But if he uses these same tactics he has throughout his career and stands in front of Pavlik while getting off, he's going to get hit back, and he's going to get KO'd. I'm really just trying to dismantle the myth that anyone with an ounce of boxing ability can beat Kelly Pavlik. What Bernard Hopkins did was very special, and required a lot of speed, complex footwork, unpredictable movement and a good deal of strength to get Pavlik's respect and stop him from just blasting back over the top. Very few fighters can do that; and, from what I've seen, Paul Williams hasn't shown that he can. Maybe he's got this ability stored up somewhere, and he just hasn't used it yet. But I very much doubt it.
