Was Calzaghe an ATG?

I think hes in the lower end of the ATGs, and the higher end of British ATGs.

Calzaghe was truly awesome. I will miss watching his fights.

maybe i seem ignorant but as a fan/spectator i cant get past his unttractive style, the way he delivers a punch is like a granny. I'm not saying i'd like to jump in the ring with him and show him how its done, just that he's horrible to watch. his stamina and fitness was awe inspiring though. i voted he not an all time great, i havn't got alot of boxing knowledge, i dont like the way he fights. some fighters are a pleasure to watch which maybe atg's should be????

 

Amazing the interest Joe still generates, and the condescension he get's from keyboard critics on boxing forums is hilarious. People seem to believe he was Britain's answer to Sven Ottke or something, but the basic fact is you can't go 46-0 and unify belts without being a very talented boxer.

 

Jeff, give it a rest, I don't think he's an ATG but you're in danger of becoming the next Betty with this vendetta!

Someone posted a calzaghe link from youtube a while back and i clicked on it so it sent me to the site. Guess whos name i saw in the comments----yes you guess it! mrpr:rofl. On and on about calzaghe....daim dont these people get bored

 

Being a very talented boxer and being an ATG are two very different things.

Honestly, I think people are very over sensitive about criticism of Calzaghe. You often can't say anything negative without being labelled all sorts of things. And the sad reality is, Calzaghe attracts THE largest number of nuthuggers on this site.

 

He was a man of his times so it's not really fair or possible too genuinlly compare him too ATG's from the past or recent past for that matter seeing that there are so many alfabete title/HBO champs around now. He ducked no one & was most certainly avoided but in this day & age i'll think you'll find it hard too find/get another alltime great today/future as long as there is no hope of any unification fights, Joe was a great titleist for many years & must be ranked up there, he did all that was asked of him & became Undisputed Champ but i don't think thats enough to put him on an equal footing as say a Marvin Hagler:smoke
