i love him to death and it's one of my favourite fights ever but if i were frazier and ali held onto my neck as much as he did to joe in manilla, i'd have left hooked his balls but ali was the greatest so i give him a pass:tong
Answer to the thread question: NO, HE IS NOT. Byrd, Sanders, Purity, Brewster and tons of other over-weight bums are pure **** and poore excuses for a contender. In order for him to be in the top 20 he needs to beat a great. it's not he's fault though he's the only good heavyweight out there. Not only that he didn't beat a great, the division is so shitty he never got the chance to fight even a washed up-over the hill-punching bag-great like for example Marciano with Luis and Moore. So this could be easily declared the most horrible hw era in boxing history. and I can name 20 better fighters than him (head to head is just bizzare, because we all know times have changed and much has advanced. so it's just stupid comparing him h2h with Jack Johnson). this is just numerical no ranking ... : 1. Ali, 2. Luis, 3. Charles, 4. Tyson, 5. Lewis, 6. Holyfield, 7. Holmes, 8. M. Spinks, 9. Johnson, 10. Dempsey, 11. Marciano, 12. Patterson, 13. Liston, 14. Frazier, 15. Foreman, 16. Tunney, 17. Jefferies, 18. Norton, 19. Sharkey, 20. Wills, 21. Bowe ... and we can go on. the only decent win in my opinion is Chagaev. And please stop this Sanders bull****. The guy is horrible.
fair post but for heavyweight rankings i have to disagree with michael spinks, floyd patterson, riddick bowe (though he's listed at 21), and jack sharkey being ahead of wlad. Ken Norton is probably ahead based off the ali win (s) and the quarry win. the rest of the list is pretty solid though
Norton? Sharkey? Tunney? Seriously? Riddick "Big *****" Bowe? :rofl I'm sorry, either this post is a wind up or you've got a lot to learn..................
He'd be close and likely would fall into the top 20. In no particular order let's see how it unfolds; Ali, Louis, Holmes, Lewis, Johnson, Foreman, Dempsey, Liston, Frazier, Holyfield, Tyson, Jeffries, Marciano, Patterson, Bowe I'd say these 15 are ahead of Wlad. In the pack with Wlad would be: Charles, Tunney, Norton, Willis, So I think he's in the top 20 somewhere between 16-20 likely on the higher end of the scale. And as to the Bowe comment, he did beat a prime Holyfield twice, Wlad's come no where near fighting that type of competition. Having said that, that's pretty much all he's done. So it's a judgement call. The same pretty much applies to Tunney as well.
everyone's got their opinions...:tong but yeah, you're right. charles should NOT be at #3 and spinks shouldn't even be able to see the top ****ing 10
That's all I'm saying..................these guys are grasping at straws to prove they aren't stupid since I said name 20 better Heavys..................:rofl Max Schmeling beat Joe Louis by KO but he shouldn't be ranked higher than Wlad for that single win should he? Ingomar Johannson (I know I spelled his name wrong) KO'd Floyd Patterson but he doesn't rank in the top 20 does he?
exactly, sure wlad's got his flaws but people sometimes seem to WANT not to like him. there are some fighters that are clearly above him, there are others you can make an argument for being above him, and there are some like schmeling and patterson that have no chance. schmeling WAS a good champion and had some good wins but other than louis his resume isn't legendary. ingo and patterson traded knockouts but ingo did NOTHING else (well he did beat eddie machen) and patterson beat an old as **** moore, cooper and chuvalo. neither has many legends on their list and pattersons reign was thoroughly uneventful. spinks beat holmes once, got schooled in the second fight and beat a post peak (to be kind) cooney. nothing else of note at heavy before getting demolished by mike. i rate charles highly personal because he had a decent sized reign, beat an all time great in walcott at that weight, went to war twice with marciano and showed incredible skills along the way. the louis win doesn't mean much.
It's just simple math...............the law of averages If you can't name 20 better guys then Klit gets top 20 by default.
I seem to have him around 15 at the moment. The big problem for Wlad is I don't see the type of opponents that will allow him to move up much. Most of the fights in front of him are with glorified prospects who are fairly green.
