This is a straight lift off a posting I made on another thread.... I feel it deserves a thread of it's own...... give this snowball a big push everyone...:good

The Beeb need to get the ABA's back on.....if the beeb had a similar show to Sportsnight from the 70's and 80's they could do this....:think

A 1 hour show with a presenter who has the respect of the fans, fighters, promoters and sportswriters across the world.......any ideas...??:think

With the 2012 Olympics on the horizon now is the time to get behind the amateurs......Anyone who has been to the Big Fights in Las Vegas will notice that $1 is donated to amateur boxing in Nevada.....Do we do that over here......?? Do we hell.....:scaredas:

:happyWe need to pump the Amateurs big time.:happy

Steve Bunce brought amateur fighters, pro fighters, promoters and most importantly the fans together for 1 hour each week...... nobody has done that in the all years I have been following boxing.... he has gone one step further in making his show interactive on line with the forums and websites when he is presenting his hour or Live events.....there is only one person IMHO who can catapult boxing back onto the BBC and that is BUNCEY.....:yep.....:amen

Aye ams has moved to far from the pro game. I find it hard to get excited about the Olympics now :verysad Every fighter changing from ams to pro has too many question over them now as well.

I agree GazOC.....it is about planting the seed... I think that the humour and interactive style of the show in the IT world we live in could draw some new punters and how we lever open and market that exposure is where it will count....lots of work required but I reckon there is a market out there...:yep

I think if the BBC can at least bring us great coverage of the Amateurs it would be brilliant. There is so much quality in our amateur boxing, it really needs and warrants the exposure. They do not need to throw big money at it and with the London 2012 Olympics just around the corner, it is very timely.

If we expose some of these lads to the general public from their am days then it could help them gain a large following when they turn pro.

The BBC could bill the ABA's as 'the road to London 2012' to get the general public interested.

I am going to start going to Amateur bouts, i know the amateur fights at the Dockers Club in Belfast is always a sell-out and a great night, will be going to these myself when they start up again in September.

The grassroots of boxing needs to receive better exposure and funding and if the BBC did show some bouts it would go a long way and would be a much better and efficient use of public money.:deal

On a decent open show you will pay £10 to get in...watch 10 contests or thereabouts... £1 a contest, talk about value... an entertaining night, worth every penny...:good

I used to love the "chicken in a basket" nights at the Working Mens clubs. I'm surprised the two boxers could see each other through the cigarette smoke....;O)

Although I'm not against seeing amateurs getting the kudos they deserve on a national platform, personally, I would much rather see professional boxing on the beeb as well as a magazine show:good.

I agree myself but to be honest I doubt the BBC would be able to afford much pro boxing.

The BBC has a responsibility to provide coverage of most sports, it should definitely show the AM's (especially with London 2012 coming up)

That said, recently Stew (Longcount) pulled out some figures showing that ITV's live boxing coverage had a bigger audience than the BBC's coverage of F1. I find that quite astounding, to be honest. Like you say, pro boxing is expensive to show but there's no reason why a few British and European title fights shouldn't be on the beeb, IMO:good.
