tony zale vs roberto duran....

Honestly bit of a pick em...Zale is better then any middleweight or even jnr middleweight Roberto managed to beat.

On the one hand Tony brings a style that Duran would have prefered to deal with at these higher weights, out of his prime..Zale wouldnt be particularly hard to find and that suits Roberto.

But Zale was no joke..quite the puncher and pretty crafty.

If pushed I like Roberto from the Hagler fight to outbox Zale in enough rounds to win on points..but I think he will be pissing blood for about a week.

 

What division, Middleweight? Zale KOs him late.

 

Zale in his prime had better footwork and was generally better all-around at 160. Zale by UD IMO.

 

Mother ****er.............. Duran is not a quitter............................ He did **** off in the # 2 fight of '80, but he was pissed and emotional............ Duran lost his cool............ Whether he was ill or weak is questionable.......... Duran was close to Leonard in the scoring after round 7.......... Duran was frustrated and weak and ill; he said "**** It!" It was a mistake that he has made up for..........

C'MON!!! Tony Zale was a slimmed down 168 to 175 pounder when he was fighting Graziano in the late 40s at 160.................. Graziano stated that before he died, too............ Zale more than likely was too big for Duran in the ring............. However, pound-4-pound, Duran is much greater.......... The hell???

I agree with your well thought-out points, except for the outcome. Over 15 rounds, I'd expect Zale to nose ahead and win on a close decision.

 

I'd expect for Zale to keep Duran honest and beat him on points. Duran would need a Polomino-esque performance to beat Zale and I don't think he could find it against as good a fighter at 160.

 

Zale would beat Duran by decision in a good fight.

 

I guess you would have to pick Zale for being the bigger man...Duran loved for fighters to come at him..he would set his traps and lead them into counter right hands, That is one scenario, the other is, after being on the receiving end of Duran's counters, feints, etc Zale says **** it...and solely concentrates on punching holes into the pit of Duran's stomach.

 

Zale would do to Duran......what Hagler should have done to Duran.

I don't trust Duran above 154 really. Zale would be the safe call.

 

Both extremely tough, i think it would go to a decision each time but it would be one of those fights where they would have to fight again and again to see who wins the majority of the time but i think Duran wins overall.

 

The prime Tony Zale pre-WW2 would have whipped any version of Roberto Duran...
Remember we are not talking P4P...Today ESB posters underestimates how tough and powerful the "man of steel " was prior to serving 4 years in the Navy...Duran was NOT a GREAT MW. As Tommy Hearns proved,and a natural MW as Zale was would be too strong a body puncher for a truly great lightweight Roberto Duran...

 

I think Duran would be able to counter Zale and get his respect. There would be blazing exchanges and I can see Zale focusing on the body.

I have a feeling that Duran would be ahead after 10 rounds because of his superior boxing skills. Zale would come on late and take a decision because of that bodyattack and superior conditioning.
