Audley Harrison- What Went Wrong?

Terry what you think of Calzaghe going up to heavyweight, taking Fraudley as a tune-up and fighting Klitschko?

 

No but what you think in a hypothetical way. What do you think of Hatton coming back and fighting Miguel Cotto? Would he outbox him like Calzaghe schooled Lacy? :huh

 

Glass jaw. No heart. No desire. He was very big and very talented but that was it. He didn't have anywhere close to a fighters mentality. And when you become set for life before you even turn pro that doesn't help much either.

skelton isn't part of the prizefighter it's sprott. and arguably the best of the britsh aren't uinvolved (not including haye) as tyson fury is arguably better than all of the competitors, and has already beat one of them.

It was a real shame, because the guy was a national hero when he brought home that gold medal. It switched around VERY quickly.

The public can turn pretty quickly when they know someone is a) being paid an awful lot of money for poor quality opponents and b) has a tendancy to boast about what they're going to do without any seeming intention to do it.

Real shame. But Audley can only blame himself.

 

At the Manchester Commonwealth games in 2002 I was in charge of all commercial activities during the boxing preliminaries at Wythenshawe Forum and the finals at the MEN arena.

Throughout the competition we had a great many sportsmen from various disciplines attending the fights. Lots of international rugby league players, quite a few football players from the premiership, a fair number of international cricketers and obviously quite a lot of professional boxers and world champions.

Adrian Ogun, Lennox Lewis's manager, asked me if I could arrange for Lennox to attend some of the fights without having any fuss made about his attendance, this we duly did.
Lennox attended the fights, watched quietly from the back and respectfully left the arena without anybody knowing he'd been there. He understood that this was all about the boxers and not about him. He understood that some of these fighters would never fight on a bigger stage than this and didn't want to detract from that by making himself the centre of attention.

Audley Harrison, On the other hand, when he attended did a fair impression of Apollo Creed in Rocky 2!
Entering the arena in the middle of a bout, making himself heard and seen as much as possible and even distracting the boxers and their coaches.

The guy had no inclination about the integrity of the bouts which were underway, he had no idea that he was stealing the limelight from young amateur boxers who were having their big day.

Therein lies the difference between the two!

Audley Harrison was/is all about the show, it's all about him, the money and the talk.
Lennox Lewis as a man and as a boxer operated in a league that Audley Harrison can only dream about.

 

Harrison's offered out David Haye then, I wonder if he'll agree to fight him?

 

Dude was just never that good.
