Where does Harry Greb rank in the pantheon of great light heavyweighs

    Next dumb question.

    Was Harry Greb the best light heavyweight between Sam Langford and Gene Tunney?

    His resume is sick.... i mean, look at basically any opponent that Dempsey beat? Almost all top men of that time have one thing in common: they lost one time or another to Greb.

    The fact that on paper he's a (super)middleweight might undermine his status at LHW or even HW somewhat, but in terms of wins, the man is absolutely up there.

    It was Greb, yes. For sure.

    Is there a case, do you think, for Greb's being #1 on a purely "who-you-beat" criteria? Or does Charles trump him?

    Yeah, plus the really astonishing 175lb fighter he shared an era with shaved their series, even if it was really without proving superiority....I mean I'm talking about what keeps him of the very very top slots for me here you understand, that's all.

    Right at the top considering he beat several of the light heavyweights who commonly make the top ten of great light heavies

    It's too bad all that we have of him is some training footage...based on resume I'd put him below Duran and Benny Leonard.

    Definitley top 10. The man arguebably deserves a higher rating at 175lb than Gene Tunney and Tommy Loughran. He beat both of them, and went on to beat 7 other Hall of Fame Lightheavyweights(wow) that Tunney and Loughran missed out on beating. Greb's resume at 175lb is filled with quality AND quantity, AND he was very fair fighting both races having taken on # 1 colored heavyweight hall of famer kid norfolk(which Jack Dempsey wouldn't do).

    The sick thing about Greb was he fought at 160-168 majority of the time, a total work horse and questionably the best pound for pound fighter ever. I personally put him above Sugar Ray Robinson.
