I agree with this completely, so often people don't differentiate between boxing skill and hand speed. 'More flash than substance'. Good post.

 

I think James Toney is at least worth mentioning.
One of my favourites to watch in his prime as he had such incredible talent.
He could do things that just can't be taught, and I´m not talking athletic ability...

 

Jack Dempsey, Roberto Duran, Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Jr.

 

Sugar Ray Robinson, Jim Jeffries, Harry Greb perhaps. There have been many.

 

Iron Mike? Hand speed, combination punching, crunching power, defense and head movement.

 

Roy Jones.

People like to say Iron Mike but so much of his success was due to the fact that he was such an awesome technician. When he left Rooney, he looked much, much worse when it was just his physical abilities. Roy Jones was a freak.

 

Not Hagler, he was a work horse.

I'd say Willie Pep.

He was workhorse. Not a naturally talented fighter. Depending on how picky and different you want to be I suppose.

I was about to ask if Chang was in the red or blue when it flashed the very Japanese name of his opponent - they're rocking the classic rivalry colors. :yep That **** runs deeper than the crips and bloods.
